So I've decided to repack a pair of Termignonis to reduce the dbs for quieter track days. The removal of the rivets and bands both ends presented no issues but I have now come to an impasse. How on earth do you separate the ends from the body ? Clearly the carbon sleeve is fragile and I don't want to start putting a flat bladed screw driver in the gap and lever away. I also guess that on assembly, jointing compound is used to help the seal. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Andy
@chrisw, thank you once again. Ended up using a piece of planed 4x2 instead of a drift but it had the desired outcome. Pleased to see all the parts are in good condition and for once no ham fisted mistakes by me so the carbon sleeves are still in one piece. The rattling in one of the cans that prompted me to use this pair to repack turned out to be bits of the packing material that had gone like blobs of glass. Now just got to wait for the repacking kit to be delivered. Andy
If you have not already ordered the kit have a look at Acoustafil Acousta-Fil® PTX - 800ºC --- Thermal Velocity | Hi-Performance Exhaust Wraps and Heat Shields - Made in Manchester, UK There is a handy calculator to assist with the amount you need. Acousta-Fil Infill Calculator
@chrisw, one final question. The calculator recommends a length of 740mm but I am curious if there is a down side of just using the full 1m sheet ? Thanks, Andy
Probably overfilling the cavity and not allowing the fill to expand fully. Likely to effect the sound absorbing ability of the fill as well. It's easy enough to cut the sheets with scissors.
I've repacked a few sets now and I always wrap the new wadding in aluminium tape, for two reasons; Makes it so much easier to get them back into the can as you can form it into the correct shape and the aluminium slips against the inside of the can rather than digging in all the way. The aluminium will give an extra layer of protection to the carbon to stop it scorching once the wadding has started to blow away. As for the packing I just get a big sheet of it and use as much as I need, I reckon some of the 'kits' don't have enough in them...
I repacked my Arrow cans with loft insulation.I took off the outlet end and just pushed strips of fibre glass in with a stick.I packed it quite firmly.Whether right or wrong,I dont know.Seemed to work well.Still is.
