Percentages of "muslims" given in various sources are rarely defined, but usually seem to mean "people of muslim descent". And that category includes a proportion of ex-muslims and atheists (and closet atheists) of muslim descent. Discussion of the figures seem to contain a hidden assumption that all immigrants and residents of muslim descent (and all their descendants) are believing muslim religionists and will remain so. That assumption is false. I personally know several ex-muslims and non-believing muslims. Their number is increasing. Given some encouragement and support, they may grow in the same way as the number of ex- and non-believers of christian descent has grown, i.e. a lot. It is objectionable to include ex-muslims along with active muslims, and to regard them all as equally a threat.
I dared offer an opinion on the Multistrada forum once (I admit it was unsolicited) and was flamed so comprehensively that I got the message. I don't go there.
You'd have to be crazy to post there. No, really, it's a requirement. You aren't allowed to post there unless you are barking.
excellent post glid (152) first 5 mins basically showed we are all the same, what followed was obvious, to me anyhoo. and confirmation not that i needed it, the most educated can often be the most ignorant.

There is a difference between IS, who are truly worrying, and mainstream Muslims, especially in Britain. It's not that I like their religion (which, I have made clear on previous threads, I don't) but there are a lot of them and most of them aren't set on world domination. In any case, I mentioned that 23% of the world is Muslim, but 35% of it is Christian. And guess who has the bigger bangs? It is neither possible nor desirable to have a Christian/Muslim war, so it's better to see how to live together by flagging up similarities rather than differences. Of course, if Britain wants to sleepwalk into a Muslim-dominated society, it will only have itself to blame, but I don't think this is remotely likely. The demographics are way against it.
It is rather heartening to see the Muslim world seems to be slowly starting to unite (in a fashion) against ISIL. Let's hope they are successful and the "moderates" prevail. Even Assad is getting positive airtime at the moment.
Yes, great film which I bigged up on some other thread. One commentator (The Guardian's man in Islamabad, in fact) mentioned that it was a bit simplistic as there is almost no mention of Pakistan. It's obviously not as definitive as a viewer might conclude, but it's a stylish and entertaining piece of film-making and the points it makes are cogent.
