  1. If you want to get fuel out of a tank, draper do a plastic pump/siphon for a very few quid off the internet, worKs a treat...

  2. I always found a bit of hosepipe and a nasty taste in the gob was the easiest way to drain a tank....

This saves the nasty taste in the gob.
I use it to drain fuel from the 999 for the lawnmower, have used it to drain water from toilet cisterns, all sorts.
Really useful bit of kit and not much more expensive than the bit of hosepipe...

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

  10. No handles on mine but then I am in Devon...

  11. Just to draw a line under this one....I drained the fuel out the other night, no fucking screw in there....could have sworn that it went in but obviously no....so, I changed the fuel filter and put it all back together....to find I didn't get a good seal so, ill be draining the fuel again this weekend as ive just got a fresh gasket this morning....hey ho....at least I now know how it all goes together.

  12. And that the screw is lying around somewhere on the garage floor and not in the tank.

To save getting a nasty taste in the mouth I normally use a piece of hose approx 36" long, shove most of it in the tank leaving 3" above the filler cap, place thumb over the open end to form a seal, then pull the hose out till you have approx 12" left in the tank whilst still holding thumb on what was the open end. Hold the thumb end over a container ensuring that it is lower than the tank and take your thumb off the open end voila the petrol that was in the tube will start to come out and will also draw fuel from the tank into your container.
Ensure container is of adequate size.

  14. Hmmmmm wonder when was the last time you paid for a tank of petrol ?? sounds very professional ;)

  15. quick and quiet.. you way works a treat too:upyeah:

  16. I used to have a tapered rubber bung with two holes in it, hose in one hole long enough to reach to bottom of tank and the other hole with a hose long enough to reach ground level and container or another petrol tank :) The rubber bung would form a nice seal and also accommodates different size fuel cap holes :)

  17. "And that the screw is lying around somewhere on the garage floor and not in the tank."

Not sure - it was pretty small and ive swept the garage out since but while the tank was empty I checked inside with a torch, loosened it and gave it a knock just to see if it was further up the tank and heard nothing so I did check...

  18. flash bastard.... couldnt let me have the rag thing eh? had to one up me with the rubber bung... this will keep........

  19. I would have been inclined to take the tank off and give it a shake, just to be on the safe side.
But at the end of the day if you have satisfied yourself that it is not there, that is all that matters really.

I have dropped screws on my garage floor never to be found again, I reckon all garages have worm holes that appear just as you drop something then disappears straight after, mystery solved.
