916 916 Fork Rebuilding, Track Spec.

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Dunc996, Mar 1, 2015.

  1. Hi,
I want to get the original forks rebuilt with suitable springs and valving for trackdays/racing, on my 916/996 hybrid. The bike is only used on track, but the front end has no feel or grip.

Anyone got any recommendations for some one to do the work.

    Cheers

    Duncan.

  2. JHS Bristol made a great job of my 748R Ohlins and I will use them again. Andy

  3. mh racing mate in wiltshire very good. he put ohlins internals in my showa forks and serviced the rear shock, also make sure you got a good set of track tyres on there as well.

  4. K-Tech did mine, top job

  5. Ktech, as they are the guys who build the cartridge kits the other just fit. Kais or Maxton are quality too.

  6. Heard good things about MH racing, and rode a mate's zx10r set up by him, very nice.

I'm running supercorsa SC2 or sc1 tyres, the current front is definitely suspect, as although the bikes always lacked feel, the grip has been there.

I have been running the headstock at the steeper angle, but I guess with the stock yokes the reduction in trail is causing the lack of feel. I've not run the bike since I've put it back to the stock head setting. The forks are the only un known on the bike so want to get them sorted before a hit the track again in anger.

Ideally I'd like to take them who has experience of Ducati, and spec the forks to suit the rest of the bike, or perhaps the bike to the forks iyswim, not just look it up on chart.

  7. depends on where you are in the country really, i was running the stepper rake aswell but think it only really works with the longer swing arm and off set triple clamps(i looked into it) and to honest for me personally its wasnt worth the expense of plus i still have as much fun on the track as it is, just make sure your tyres are tip top as there the only part of the bike that keep you shine side up on the track.

  8. you want go too far wrong with MH racing, Mark rebuilt a very scabby onlins shock for me and it came back looking and working better than new and for fair money.

i would still send forks direct to K-tech as they have their in-house engineered piston kits which will make the stock showa forks behave beautifully for a £250 on top of the service and spring costs

if you wanted to go the full cartridge replacement route then K tech or Maxton will do you a great job

  9. Cheers for the feed back chaps. I'm based down in Dorset, so Mh aren't so far away. Anyone know if Peak performance in Exeter are still around?

  10. K-tech all the way. :upyeah:

  11. I have K-Tech fitted internals in my 749R Ohlins forks - absolutely sublime!

  12. Many prefer ktec to ohlins, certainly std forks with ktevh internals are meant to be way better than std ohlins shipped on most Ducatis
