It is ridiculous that in a country as overcrowded as this which is becoming more and more dependent on imported food, we should be squandering what agricultural land we have left on solar "farms" when there are millions of acres of south facing roof tops which could be put to use and which are situated exactly where the power will be needed. Someone should invent an entire roof covering out of solar panel material and kill two birds with one stone.
Why use prime land for wind farms? Stick the windmills on motorway verges. Why isn't there a water wheel in every river?
Another point in their favour. I think we should make Scotchland look like one giant wind farm, from space. That would look great on Google Earth.
Solar power doesn't have to be efficient, although it would obviously help if it was. It doesn't matter because its free, endless and reliable. As for inventing a solar roof covering, paint on solar panels are coming. Agree that we should be using the land for food as much as possible, especially Bacon!
Didn't i say already, they dont need to be efficient because once they are installed every watt you generate is free.
They need to be efficient if they are to supply the national grid, or at least reasonably predictable. But the process of distributing power from a central source isn't very efficient in itself. On a building by building basis every watt of self generation is a bonus. We rely too much on central provision for so many things. The more of a building's power requirements it can generate for itself, the better.
