Newbies selling stuff here?

  1. Recently, I've noticed a lot of people who have very low post counts selling stuff in the classifieds. This concerns me as the assumption may be that the seller is known to forum members and is somehow vouched for. In reality, these people have no history here and may not be selling genuine items. At least with ebay, you get some sort of protection from dodgy sellers.

Should we set a minimum post count for people who want to sell their items?

  2. I can see where you're coming from, but I don't have a problem with it.

As far as I'm concerned if a forum member needs a part and someone is selling it, as long as you're careful (just as with any other private purchase), whats the problem?

Paying with Paypal, even off eBay, affords you the same protection (does it not?).

  3. it's a personal thing of course but access to the 'history bar' on left is so easy now that I can't see it's a problem Jerry.

  4. As long as the buyer is careful then I cant see any harm but the number of posts doesnt mean a lot does it. I remember a guy on the old site who built up a huge total by replying +1 or nice one or smiley face(cant bring myself to find the phuquing symbol) etc to practically every post made.

  5. On a watch forum I frequent (TZ UK) you need a post count of 50 to even read the classifieds and 250 to post or reply to one. If you are seen post rubbish to up the numbers the forum owner either bans or resets you to zero. That may sound harsh but it works very well and the level of trust between members is such that you can buy some fairly high value items without worrying that you are going to get stuffed! So yes, I agree with you Jerry.

Coincidentally my DD bike, advertised here, on DOCGB and TZ UK actuallyt sold on TZ!

  7. Nonetheless , people joining just to advertise and dissapear is not going to do the forum much good. I think there should be a minimum of say 50 posts reqired. Its common practice on many forums.

  10. that's why I thought it might be an idea. I'm on Landyzone too and they're almost rabid if a 'noob' posts a classified. The pack mentality is fascinating to watch.

I guess my concern is that someone who is new here maybe assumes that another new person is well known on here and has a bad experience as a result.

  11. Disagree, i don't care how many posts you have. If you have something of interest to members here then its all good.

This appears to be a kind of snobbery in my eyes.

Oh and Paypal is not that good a protection in fact. I've lost money to a reasonably well known person on the old Ducatisti and he would have passed the 50 posts so its safe idea.

  12. So if someone wants rid of a whole load of cheap parts, but doesn't want to spend a few weeks getting 50 posts on the site, you won't be upset that you miss out on the bargains?

  13. The democratic way is a vote, then the membership gets what they want.

My 2p is that I don't have a problem with it. If you get something you need/want, especially for cheap - awesome

  17. I dunno.

I do think that a measure of trust builds up between members as they go along participating and posting - friendship even.

Whereas, - and we are speaking entirely hypothetically here - if I were a scrote, and I'd half-inched someone's Ducati and broken it into parts and wanted to sell them, would this forum not be a highly targeted place to off-load the hot goods? If someone's been posting for weeks or months, it seems to me that this scenario is a lot less likely than someone who just pops up to offer a load of merchandise.

Bike theft being a major hassle these days, why wouldn't the forum seek to do the little it can to minimise fencing?

  18. If someone nicked a ducati stripped it for parts the last place they would post stuff up for sale is a ducati forum!
I don't think it would be long before someone noticed a part etc.........!
