Hello after more advice, bikes 2010 but been stored for most of it, its on 700 miles now, Im going to do the clutch and brake fluids soon as they are looking a tad brown, is it a good idea to flush the coolant and replace? Is this a big job?
If I remember correctly, both the Multistrada and the Diavel were recalled for coolant replacement and isn't the coolant periodically changed on one of the bigger services ? If it's an easy job why not do it at the same time as changing the other fluids ? Now is as good a time as any to get to grips with the bike and learn to do the easier stuff. Andy
That's true enough, but it depends on your ability and mindset. If you're not keen on the idea of tackling that job, it'll wait til you can afford to pay someone else to do it, or are in the right frame of mind to tackle it yourself. It's not like an oil change where you really need to do it regularly. As long as it is coolant and not just water it'll be fine. The coolant in my SV650 is at least 10 years old, I couldn't be arsed to change it, to be frank. I'll get round to it soon enough. I checked it when I bought the bike and it was clean and well topped up, I've done about a hundred or so miles, and it's still spotless, so there's no crap churning round the system, therefore it'll wait. The bike's been sat in a shed for a decade on the same coolant.
I had to change the thermostat on my bike yesterday which meant draining the water. The bike was fully rebuilt about 300 miles ago, I was surprised to find quite a lot of "dirt" in the coolant although there were no signs of rust. If you can do the job then do it whilst sorting out the rest of the bike, it won't harm, but as mentioned it's not likely to do any damage or cause a major problem.
