1200 DVT New Scorpion Trail Tyres

  1. Saw this good but extremely and unreservedly biased review on the new MTS. During the review it makes claims about the new Scorpion Trail tyres being 60% more durable and better in the wet. Be very interesting to see if that really is reality. It's a big claim. Maybe the new tyres are a little less off road than they already were.

Here is the link for the very biased review but it does give some good and at times humorous information.

I think 'Ive done that correctly but I am a bit of a techno phobe!

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  2. The refernce to the tyres might be on part two by the way which isn't linked lol

  3. The problem with Pirellis is longevity and consistency. My first and only set were changed at 5k. Took about 1k to bed in. Worked well for about 3k. Last 2k performance dropped precipitously. Last 100 miles was slipping on the slightest lean.

    Never ever again.

  4. I have to say I hated the original Scorpions I could spin them in a straight line,I was much happier once I changed them.

  5. Don't think I will be swopping the Angel GT's for them, the original Scorpion's the bike came with felt a lot less
agile and the front was knackered after 1700 miles.

  6. Have to say I like the Angel GTs and reckon they are better than the Scorpions.

  7. They should really give you a choice when you order a new bike from a selection. Not an unlimited choice but they must get feedback about how crap people think the stock tyres are. and they must also know what alternatives folk tend to put on

Not sure what to do about the tyres mine will come with (Scorpion Trail version two I suppose). Tyres are the single biggest item on a bike for me. I'm running Pilot Road 4 on the beemer and they are way better than the stock Metzeler tyres in my own opinion. Tyres are a very subjective thing I think. You have to trust. I was on a mountain in the rain last year and the Metzelers gave me a couple of squeaky bum moments. Not good on a hairpin with the bike fully loaded and the missus on the back. From what I've read on this forum me thinks the scorpion tyres will be rubbish in the wet too?

For the sake of a couple of hundred pounds I might ask the dealer to change mine to something better before I even pick it up. Dont need an off road tyre cos I will never will be going off roading - well not on purpose anyways :Finger:. Maybe a gravel car park but that will be about it.

  8. If thefts bike I rode was fitted with the new tyres then I'd have to say they are much better than the previous version (albeit they were brand new)

  9. The OE Scopions were good for the 1st 2000 miles, then went off rapidly, replaced at 2700 miles. They had uneven wear on the front sides, also on the wear bars at the sides. The big surprise is that they were good in the rain as long as you kept the speed up. Once the heat was lost they felt unpleasant.
Pirelli Angel gt were very good in any conditions, no complaints and good wear.
Michelin PR3s very good, front felt vague though IMO.
Running Dunlop Sports smart 2s now. Outstanding in the dry and good in the wet. Happy days.
Not many bad tyres available now.

  10. PR4s for me when the Angels wear out. Designed for what i will use them for and not a compromise like the Angels, good as they are, are. Jon.

  11. Bridgestone T30s have transformed the bike for me. They use them on all the Ron Haslam school bikes now. Nuff said
