1200 Won't Rev Past 8k Rpm In 3rd Gear?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dr Mark, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. Got a new dash fitted and 2nd starter switch under warranty, rode home all fine. Away for a week, bike in garage, and then straight to a track day. All seemed fine then as the pace picked up bike seemed to struggle at 8ooo rpm but only in third...?
Weird so I put the go pro on the dash and sure wouldn't go above 8k in third...

1st fine and 2nd way above 8k rpm and on the way home, just seems to limit (no dash lights) in third gear at 8000 rpm....

    Any ideas?

    Ta.

  2. Looks like they've installed the 'third gear 8,000 RPM limiter update when doing the warranty work. Funny though I thought Ducati was owned by Audi not Microsoft.

  3. You have a separate spark and fuel map for each gear (and for each cylinder).
May be it was corrupted during the initialisation of the speedo?
Not an expert on this; just wanted to put the idea out there for someone better qualified to comment.

    EDIT....or just repeat.

  4. Does seem odd. Maybe first action would be get the dealer to reflash your ecu with the latest updates in case something errored on dash install,.,or could be the limiter Drinky said ;)

  5. Are you sure the exhaust valve isn't sticking?

    • Agree Agree x 2
  6. Wouldn't the exhaust valve effect all gears? First and second blast past 8k, had the throttle pinned coming down the back straight and no more than 8000 rpm...

  7. I would check the exhaust valve also, it does sound strange it only happens in 3rd gear, but the valve would cause this if its sticking. It's a quick and easy check to eliminate the valve before you need to dig deeper

  8. Yep the valve is very resistant to mooooooove.....

  9. I think that could well be the culprit, free it off and see if the issue as disappeared!! [emoji106]
