P0351 Error On Ducati 749 Dark Any Help?!

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by blackurtins, May 7, 2015.

  1. hello bike riders and bike lovers
    i have a ducati 749 dark
last month the engine light came on and the bike started stalling.
i get the p0351 error that is supposed to be the coil on the first cylinder, so i swapped coils and same problem on the first cylinder.
i also bought a new termi performance ecu and installed it ( because on some forums and people suggested the problem could be the ecu).
    cant find solution.
can anybody help me out solving this problem?

  2. from memory that was a coil driver error on fiats. new ecu possibly.

  3. Thanks for the tipo But I allready changed new ecu

  4. check for continuity between the the two coil wires and ecu.
someone will have a pin out.

  5. Use the left button on the clocks to retrieve the Fault code on the dash.

    Post here.

Could be as simple as a faulty coil/injector/fuel pump relay.

  6. Thanks finm
I did check continuity on wires they seem to be Ok.

  7. Thanks
    Thanks chrisw
I changed one relay near the ecu as well and still no good i have swap coils and nothing.

I was Wondering if Could be the cps sensor failiure.

    Havent tried the clock button.
    How can i use it?

  8. With ignition off hold left dash button down. Switch ignition on and keep button held down. Dash will first display EFI and then scroll through the fault codes

749/999 error codes - Ducati Up North

  9. borrow another ecu with start up code. just to rule it out.

  10. Normally one side of the coil is live , the live usually comes from main relay or ignition on relay , the other wire on the coil connector will go back to ecm and this is the earth trigger to the coil , so with a normal 12 volt test light with ignition on check that you have live on one side of the connector (un plugged off coil )
If you have live , put the test light crocodile clip on battery positive , dip on the other pin and crank the engine , If the earth is there the test light will just flash , it may not be bright just a glow due to the switching duration from ecm .
This is general test procedures if you post up a diagram I will look at it in more depth

  11. Thanks chrisw I managed to scroll on clock efi errors and I get:

10.2 Hor. Coil shorted to earth

  12. Thanks mechanico lee
My mechanic Will do the test you sugested today and I Will get back to you

  13. My fault diagnosis would go

Swap coils to see if fault number swaps to vertical

    Fit new coil/injector/pump relay

Continuity check feed to coil using a meter to see if there is a break in a wire. Needs access to ECU connector.

Fit new ECU as coil driver is knackered.

I want to thank chrisw mechcanico lee and finm for your help.
Just for your info in the end I changed first cilinder coil for a New one I bought jpdiag software to clean up all errors and its running great!
Its running better than before thanks to Anthony at Avanti.com that upgraded my ecu.
