  1. Took the MTS to the shop today to have my spiffy new Michelin PR4 GT's installed. Shop couldn't get the rear wheel nut removed. broke three ratchets trying to get it to budge...

Not sure what to do next.

  2. Going by previous posts, you have my sympathies.

  3. They need to use a pneumatic gun.

  4. they tried that as well... no joy... they even tried heating it up... Ill have to drop it off for them to have it a few days...

  5. A pneumatic gun is the best option and a heavy duty one at that. Using a rachet is not going to work on a nut of that size, it needs a breaker bar at least and probably a very long length of steel pole to consider not using the gun method.

A rachet is not designed to be used in the way you have described, maybe somewhere else might do a better job.

  6. I did the brake pads on the car Sunday. One wheel nut took a breaker bar with a scaffold pole round it. I knew I had a couple of scaffold poles in the garage for a reason.

  7. Dennis where are you?

  9. Sorry, a bit too far for me to pop over with a 3/4" socket.

  10. Sometimes the gun will fail. You then need to employ 3/4 socket, looooooooooooong bar and the fat bloke from the pub!

  11. i'm in the US. thanks for offering to swing by.
They tried breaker bars, actually using an old fork tube.
can't wait for that nut to come off. I'm going to coat the threads with copper anti seize and this won't be an issue in the future.

  12. Hey... I resemble that remark... I broke one of the breaker bars yesterday at the shop trying to get the nut to budge... landed flat on my arse! luckily the iPhone didn't bend on impact!

  13. on another note I changed the oil myself yesterday with some decent quality Amsoil synthetic (20W50)... The testastretta quieted down enough for me to start hearing the stock exhaust. the noise that lump makes reminds me of the clatter of a diesel.

  14. You need earplugs, mine's as quiet as a mouse !

  15. Rattle gun should have got it off

  16. If you think that's noisey u want to hear my Norton 961 SF Jeeez!! [emoji15]

  17. If you want to do it at home It's purely a matter of length [emoji6]
A long enough lever will move anything. I snapped a socket adapter on the breaker bar until I got the scaffold pole involved.

  18. 3/4 or inch drive breaker bar with scaffold tube and 3/4 or inch drive sockets so you are not using a step down will do it easily , if you have any hgv commercial places nearby go and see them and see if someone kind enough will just crack it off for you .... bung em a tenner for there trouble
