Travelled 150 miles or so this cold, 13c, Bank Holiday with the wife riding shotgun. This past year she has completed 7000 miles in South America, 3000 miles in New Zealand and 3000 miles , last month, down Italy to Sicily ; all on a GS WC. She thought the pillion position offered good distance behind the rider, comfortable smooth ride and well positioned top box......she is 5' 8". She thought the bike vibrated at standstill.......they all do love! From my perspective the sky hook does the business and the handling remained sharp with a smooth ride. However that sharp handling is sensitive to pillion fidgets, more so than the GS. In summary, she thought there was good room and distance to the rider with compliant suspension. I thought this bike has a spanking engine which can't really be spanked with a pillion on board ..... If you want your pillion to continue touring!
I had Mrs T on the back of the DVT yesterday for a run down to Brighton and back. She said it was very comfortable and had no problems with the seat or peg positioning. She said that she was higher up relative to me compared to my Yamaha Super Tenere and as a consequence was getting more wind blast and a bit of buffeting. She shrieked quite a bit on hard acceleration
These reviews are good. I do lots of two up riding even though my missus has passed her test. She has been asking me if there are any pillion reviews when I have been waxing about the posts from new DVT owners. Pleased to know the room is good, the riding position is good and the suspension isn't affected by the added weight. Interested to know if the reviews included any panniers as that can affect the leg or foot position? The vibration when at standstill could be interesting if she asks me to wait for the next set of lights
took wifey out on the back yesterday I may have wheelied a bit when passing a dawdling sports bike. She has been my one and only pillion for over 20 years and has actually fallen asleep on the back of several bikes whilst I've been riding. the multi is the best two up bike i've had in her opinion
Yes, my wife said she felt the seat was high but no wind blast. She also said the footpegs are OK when sitting but the panniers interfere when mounting the bike as they prevent the turning of the left foot as the seating position is taken......OK when seated with no interference.
my OH is only 5'4 with ikkle legs so needs a running lunge to get on the multi its probably hilarious to watch.
When I got my 2010 mts, my wife told me never to change the bike. We do roughly 10 k miles a year on trips. It is telling that there are a number of members in my local bike club now that have mts for 2 up touring, and all the pillions are very happy. Ric, as for not using all of its go when two up, you just need to build up to it. Once they feel comfortable, you can get away with it By the way great yo see you on here, last time we spoke was over on kever ashes forum.
Enthusiastically seconded. My partner says this is the most comfortable bike she's been on as a pillion, likening it to an office chair (in a good way). At 5'8" she gets a lot of buffeting above about 110Kph, though. When we hit 130, she just has to snuggle in behind me, accept that she can't anticipate what's going to happen because she can't see any more, and hope I don't have to do anything sudden. As for using all the go, we're both going to have to build up to it. I goosed the throttle semi-hard in second, and nearly lost _both_ of us off the back. Good thing the other half is in it for the fast and twisty stuff. Her only complaint is that the panniers leave no room for moving her feet around, because I ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs and tend to rest my heels on her toes. Getting onto the bike is also slower than in the past, because she has to thread her feet into place between my legs and the panniers. For my part, it's the best bike I've _ridden_ with a pillion.
