Decent Reasonable Duke Service/mechanic In Cambs?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Pidge1969, May 28, 2015.

  1. Hi I am new on here have not even picked up my bike yet (2001 748b) get it on Sat (can't wait!) just wondering if anyone knows of a decent service place for the 12,000miles service around Cambs area. I know there is St.Neots Motorcycles but they want £800 for the service, is this reasonable? I thought (as does a duke owner I know) that it seemed a bit high? Anyone offer a newbie some advice please? Cheers

  2. How far you willing to travel?

  3. Had not really given that much thought, but yeah I would travel if it wasn't a million miles away, gota stay close ish to home as new baby and tall that

  4. Geoff at Baines racing at Silverstone gets great reports which is about 1 1/2 hours (depending on how quickly you ride) or Corner speed is about 2 hours and gets rave reviews as well.

I'm fairly new to Ducati (November) but from what I have read people travel to get the right service, there must be a reason for this.

My first service will be with Geoff @ Baines. Its a nice 1hr ride for me so I have popped up twice to say hi and chatted to him on the phone and he seems totally genuine and incredibly knowledgeable.

  5. Ps, gratz on the new baby.

  6. Or did you mean the 748?

  7. Ha ha no i meant the little kind that poo and cry ;-) cheers for the info, did you get a quote for your service? Funny you should mention Baines because they/he did the 6k service on the 748 i am getting, i thought he had closed down - obviously not, I'll maybe see how far it is on autoroute and give him a ring

  8. It's about 64 miles from mine to Baines - if he is reasonable then that's not too bad, unless he has to have the bike longer than a day

  9. I did as mine is heading for 12k very quickly but can't remember what it was but it was certainly less than £800.
Trouble is with the 12k service is the valves get checked and the rockers. If they are all ok, it's not to bad, but if you have a handful of rockers gone ££££££. And you have no way of knowing till they open it up.
If you can do a few easier bits like brake/clutch fluid change, air filter change etc it will bring the cost down a bit. I'm working through the easier bits and learning but letting Geoff do the tricky stuff.
If you go with Baines then let us know how you get on.

  10. Cheers they are a lot closer - have you used them?

  11. Not personally but I've known Chris for 15 years or so and he has an excellent reputation.

Tell him El Toro sent you :)

  12. Ok cheers I will give him a ring and have a chat cheers El Toro

  13. Tell him El Toro sent you :)[/QUOTE]
    That ll double the quote.:)

  14. Carl Harrison at harleston - just into Norfolk. Not a million miles from you, has a great reputation and reasonable price. Worth a phone call if nothing else:upyeah:

  15. Cheers DoctorW is his reputation through members on this site? I'll check if he has a web site and find him on the map, cheers

  16. No probs - I was recommended by this site and have used him several times (he's about 40 miles from me, but I'm perfectly happy to do this). His website is reasonable / tells you what they're about (Matt is not there now, but Carl is the main man - think he can do most anything tbh and just seems a decent bloke that isn't out to squeeze the last penny out of you).[IMG]:upyeah:
