Bought some tyre changing kit, have 4 tyres to change/put on, and mine isnt avaiable until after I have been to Cadwell mid June. Anyone have one I can borrow for a few days around the gloucester to bristol corridor? Thx
Me too. Don't think they give enough oomph to punch the tyre onto the bead. May have a go this weekend and if it works happy days!!
I've refitted the rear tyre on my Monster 3 or 4 times so far, and re-seated the tyre using only a foot-pump. Also removed and refitted the tyre using only cable ties and ultra-short, plastic, bicycle tyre levers. And a length of fence post as a lever to break the bead initially. Michelin PR2 on later type, 3-spoke Brembo wheels. Amazingly, using the cable ties to refit the tyre, I can push the last bit of the beading over the edge of the rim using just my thumbs. And using the short, (3 inch) plastic tyre levers to remove the tyre (again, plus the cable ties) leaves no rim damage and doesn't require fiddly rim-protectors. The same rear tyre now sports THREE professional type, mushroom repair patches, applied by myself for under a fiver (all three) and saving about £400 in premature tyre replacements or professional repairs. But you'll be relieved to hear that I've now splashed out a massive £70 on a "new" pair of race scrubs for the summer. Who says Ducati ownership is expensive ? ps. the footpump is ancient. I got it with Green Shield Stamps !!!
I do all my own tyre changes also, but do have a 1.5hp compressor in my garage. I find the secret is to put plenty of lube on the tyre beading, then it seems to "pop" into place much easier at lower pressures. Normally dont need any more than 40psi.
I have: bead breaker 18" levers rim protectors (wahey Matron!) tyre soap balancer weights to balance 12v compressor for camping etc foot pump high volume bicycle pump think I'll give it a go!! I have to change one rear slick, add front and rear slicks to tyres which I haven't used before (hope they are true!) and a rear inter to remove to put a wet onto oh and my multi needs a new front so if after all that lot, I buying the cheapest online PR4 I can and doing it myself!!
I used to take my wheels off and pop into my local bike garage Lovely old boy looked after me Think it cost a £5 to change
