1200 Wheel Alignment

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by cmyers_uk, May 21, 2015.

  1. Had my MOT and had an advisory about wheel alignment. I had made clearly an incorrect assumption that with the single sided swing arm I didn't worry about alignment . How do I align a single sided swing arm?

    Confused

    Thanks

  2. Highly improbable but what does your tyre wear look like ? That will be an indicator if anything is wrong. Personally I'd look for another MoT station, it doesn't inspire confidence if the tester doesn't know anything about the vehicle he (or she) is testing. Andy

  3. Its a standard MOT test, they just check the front wheel and back wheel are in a straight line when the handle bars are straight - they care not about how it is adjusted and has no influence on how they would test it, so going some other place is not going help...

Have you owned your bike from new? Any accidents? Just curious as to how it could be out of whack because like you say, you can't move the wheel at the rear side to side like you can with two chain adjusters

  4. Or it could just be that they didn't do a great job of checking it :)

  5. have you changed the front tyre recently and put a spacer back incorrectly? Otherwise, cant see how it could be mis aligned....unless something major was bent!

  6. Your fork yokes aren't twisted are they? it's quite easy to do if the pinch bolts are lose.

  7. Thank you all , I had a 5mph tops accident where my hand guard hit the rear of a taxi and hand end result cut pinky so it really can't have been hard but i guess it could be bent . I have 30k service due next week so I will ask them to give it a real going over. it rides fine , no wobbles or pulling or anything . Thanks for all the replies regards chris

  8. The MOT tested does know that the tyres are different thickness's?

  9. I don't know to be honest it was a local independent he was time served and everything he mentioned was spot on otherwise, he wasn't fussed about it when I asked him to explain. You know what its like when your on a bike, someone says somethings wrong event slightly I tend to worry as I ride it quite hard and experience has taught me crashing hurts and the older and fatter i get the less bouncy i am :)

  10. Second that !
