Battery Terminal Nut - How Never To Drop Or Lose Another...

  1. With the battery angles being somewhat jaunty on some Ducati's it is a common bug bear that the little square nuts are often dropped into hard to reach places.

While researching where to buy longer bolts for my soon to be launched Electric 'Starter Cable' Kits I came across this simple but effective trick which necessitated the need for longer bolts.

I will now be including some short lengths of tubing in the kits to make the fitment less frustrating but thought I'd share this as it's so simple, yet so effective.

You simply enter the bolt a little way to support the nut in position, push in a small piece of 6mm OD plastic tube behind the nut (I used a 20mm length) then remove the bolt and put the battery in the bike.

With my kits the tube simply compresses into the additional 3mm gap that is created due to the additional stack height of the new thicker terminals piggybacking the original cables. If using on a conventional system the tube can simply be pulled out before tightening (hence cutting to 20mm and not shorter) and re inserted prior to battery removal or simple screwed through and left, then replaced next time.

No more falling / lost nuts :D
