1200 DVT My Take Now On 1200 Dvt

  1. Picked it up today, White, Urban, Enduro, Touring packs.

As everyone else has said it is different, Very Different, 90% my reason to buy, and eventually replace my 1200 Touring S was seat height:-

It is a lot lower, the weight is lower, slow maneuvering is a a lot easier, and certainly gives short people a lot more confidence, coupled with a far smoother engine at low revs, this difference is night and day, it felt really odd and scarey when I was slowing down and stopping how close my foot was to the ground :) in touring mode both feet now pretty close to flat on the ground, 5'6" 29/30" inside leg. Don't underestimate how heavy it still is though pushing it on foot up a slight incline yep it is dam heavy.

The Seat is again very different, although my old MS has a Sargent, but the new seat will want you to slide down to the front, where it is narrow, and seat in that position, although you can just seat right back and still ride comfortable, but higher up. Seat is in the lowest setting. I have enduro pack and I was told that the pegs are slightly lower. It was comfortable enough for me straight off, and I am sure one I get used to the new position I will be able to do long mile crunching trips.

The other huge improvement for me is the wind shield, being short it actually works on this bike, and I can ride with my Visor perma up at pretty well any speed, (well so far with in 6k Revs :) little wind and no roar around my helmet. I might add though I hate large windshields so will try a PP later on, but I would not hesitate to put the large one back on for touring.

It was quite warm today, and I was quite hot with textiles on, your legs and body well wind protected, good for cooler weather not so in hot weather.

Great Screen, Clear and very informative. BUT around 3k it vibrated the screen, rather annoyingly so, I am hoping as the engine beds in it will disappear, it was only around 2/3k after that was fine, I know it is new, and I am looking at it more so atm, Was odd watching it change day to night all the time in the evening when going under tress etc.

Engine is as all have said very smooth, huge induction noise one you open the throttle, it feels lazy, but when you look at the speedo you are traveling a lot quicker than I was expecting to, maybe not use to the screen, but it is quite GS like gentle bouncing over the bumps, you feel the bump going in never fell it coming out, as you get quicker everything tightens up, the S hook works differently, my Old MS was a lot harder on the suspension in touring mode, and that was pretty well default too.

It gives you a sense of lazyness, but you are knocking along quite quickly. I under stand people thoughts as a mile cruncher comfy fast when you just want to cruise, I have not really tried any other modes. I can again understand some peoples comments about losing its Raw Engine edge, it has horses for courses, I certainly have no doubts it is quicker when you want it to be, just more refined and controlled like the handling. It is early days yet regarding the real handling in general, just so far everything feels smoother.

Controls much better, like the lights on them, and all individual control buttons, also much better stop and start system.

I can see what Ducati have done, they have made the MS more of a tourer, trying to compete more with the GS, might have made a mistake in the larger picture with the XR now on the table, making the DVT more refined, better looking in my view, question is? is it at the slight expense of the rawness and sportier side you get with the old MS, early days for me, but for me the deal breaker was Seat Height, and that is a winner everything else is a bonus, it is still a great around bike and it will make me smile for sure :)

  2. Good review, I agree the wind shield is much improved, more robust and less rattly. Definitely feels softer ride in touring mode.
The high beam switch is a bit too close to mi index finger but I will get used to that.

  3. Cheers proff, you're not helping ;)

What px did you get then.....drop me pm if you prefer, good to get an idea. Hoping my friendly dealer is friendly or I may have to look elsewhere :(

  4. Good review. I would like you to come back after the first service when you can open it up. I can assure you it's not that far behind the BMW. It's fast as foooook!!!

  5. I find that too. When I use the clutch lever I often foul the main beam flasher switch, so that I inadvertently flash the headlamp. I fear that one day somebody will misunderstand the flash and it will cause a problem. Perhaps I will try to devise a cure (apart from moving my hand further to the left, that is).

  6. Great review! Thank you and good luck with the bike.

  7. Thanks all.

I think the Sky Hook is very different, working a lot harder making the bike smoother, with the wind shield, you are actually going a lot quicker than you think.
Quite a lot of added features, even power under seat, to leave your phone and charge it up. Rubber Bungs to cover the bolts.

  8. This bike saved yesterday most likely my life - oh yeah got this baby three weeks ago and done already 1200km with it, apologies for not updating you guys :Shamefullyembarrased:
I was climbing a curvy but quite fast route and my speed was varying between 80 and 130kph. You know those tar patches on the road that get soft when there is a hot day, well that route was full of these and yesterday was a very hot day. I was driving through a fast curve when the whole bike took a wild slip - like now we're going down- and returned back to the normal position. It was a very aggressive correction and everything happened within a second. I did very little simply because the bike was so much faster than me correcting the angle without even reducing very much the speed - which would be enough to throw us to the trees next to the road.
My guess is that while I was leaning the bike the rear wheel hit one of those tar patches and caused the bike to start slipping off its route. The dynamics helped considering the fact that I had a passenger and a the rear case fully loaded however my lean angle was definitely less than 30 degrees. The bike settings were according to my load i.e. two passengers but no luggage and I was in sport mode :Shy:.
First thoughts were that the few extra bucks I spend for the dynamic suspension did just paid themselves back, but it'd be great to hear if anybody else have had any similar experiences. One think is sure, beware of those damned patches because for a motorbike on a hot day they can turn to dead traps.

  9. Not ridden the new one, proff feels its a better set up now and works harder to make the ride smoother, but the previous skyhook I find gets better with speed. And the electronics will always be able to react quicker than us mortal being :upyeah:

    3k well spent then :)

  10. Hmmm done another 150 miles or so today, 2 lessons learn't, well not mistakes though :)

The bike clearly is lower and foot pegs also, was going around a right hander, and scraped boot on the ground, it shit me right up, means going to need to spend more time using, and setting up different modes, to jack bike up, it certainly caught me out, where as before I always used touring.
Another little annoying thing, the bike is quite low, when set in a lower riding height mode (Preload) on skyhook, the side stand makes the bike quite upright, so rather paranoid when leaving it, also with the enduro pack you get the stand plate that lifts it again.
It is Clearly a lot easier to rub the chicken strips off the Scorpions over the PR4's and not even tried.
I as Pete1950 added caught the High Beam Lever a couple of times today, and that is with my small hands
Clutch Lever is slightly smoother and easier to pull in, and hold over the older model, I found in heavy traffic with my little hands lots of clutch work made hand ache for a while
Average petrol on computer is around 53 mpg so far.

    So Far so Good :)

  11. Try upping the preload a little, makes it less bouncy. +1 each time.

  12. All the blurb says the pegs are an inch higher and ground clearance improved not worsesned. Could be because you are running so soft, and as the SH is next generation, it has a more prenounced impact when you ride it

  13. Had a little nose around the bike this evening, Have to say a lot more thought has gone into it, build wise:-
You might even get the back wheel off with out removing Exhaust.
I think you may be able to adjust chain with out removing the Crud catcher, not sure if I can see 2 locking bolts, or is there only one now?
Looks Like the Sump Protector drops off, a lot easier, and is held on with bolts/screws and lock nuts, not those silly clips with screws.
They have tried to cover lots of the bike and rubber bungs in holes.
Bike in general looks a lot neater for sure.

  14. Not quite. But I have found that taking off the silencer (so you can get the wheel off) is a bit easier than before.

  15. first of all the bike is NOT lower , it's actually higher then the previous model mate! The fact that the seat is low doesn't mean the bike is clearly lower. If you are hitting your foot pegs which is NOWAY , either you are on a wrong bike or your streets got angles like a track. The bike have so much ground clearance that it's almost impossible to touch the pegs to the ground , you can do that but you really need to get your elbows down in corner. I don't know how you guys change gear or pull the clutch but I didn't have any problem with the head beam on. I mean it's in a perfectly normal place. All late ducatis has it similar place . Most of japoneese bikes have it there don't really understand how do you manage to click it ?

Again go check it with the earlier models the bike actually been raised to have more Clarence for off road applications. This is not an off-road bike but people are buying enduro pack and make the bike look like a off road bike. As I am a ex Ktm 1190 adventure rider there is no way you will last with a ducati multi off road. And I am not talking about some uneven gravel.!

So again and again THE BIKE IS NOT LOW TH SEAT IS LOW.

  16. Tancaker was not my foot pegs, it was my foot, I just assume that my foot was lower, thus then pegs must be. My right foot tends to stick out more than my left, my comment was I never did it on my old multi, and did with out even trying on new one, my comment was really about there is a difference somewhere, as Bradders said "toes should be on pegs anyhow :)

I have small hands so the shortest distance between the grip and clutch lever is right to the right hand side edge of the lever, thus close to the high beam lever switch.

I did buy my bike wanting to go off road, the only real reason for Enduro pack was it works out a better deal to buy the main think I wanted crash bars and LEDS as a pack, than on their own. same as urban, did not really want tank bag, but wanted rear top box etc. (note I got 20% off all the extras I bought, hence bought 3 packs)

Please note I run the bike in a very low setting as I am short, so that must lower the foot pegs a lot compared to maybe others who actually may raise it on preload

  17. TanCakar, just because they've raised the engine, I would have thought that doesn't necessarily mean the bike is higher or am I wrong ?

  18. 20% off packs...
    Who is your dealer MaDProFF?

  19. 5mm difference according to the manuals, at least for clearance. Not sure how that translates to ergonomics.

    1.jpg 2.jpg

  20. No the bike is higher engine is different even the intakes beak, bike just been raised for off road, there was complains about the motorbike been too low for off-road . Now it has been rised I read and watch so many reviews about it that I am actually quite sure. Anyway if you shouldn't ride your feed going out like that ! The bike you are riding is not a cruiser or a Harley . Even if your feet size is small you can still touch the ground if you hills on the pads. That's. To a great way of riding a motorcycle. People do say tip toes but not really needed you need to find a comfortable area I between tip toes and middle of the feed . So more towards to toes.
