  1. My great great grandfather recalls him with fondness.

  2. Clarkson wrote books. Amazing. I'm actually 79, but I like to boast.

  3. Raymond Baxter is the only person ever to have shot down an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile from a piston-engined aircraft - V2 from a late model Spitfire... Little known fact...

  4. Have you ever read The Ginger Tw@ts car column in the newspaper?
To be honest he might like cars, but the only thing he seems to actually know about them is how much they cost - and as far as he's concerned, the more they cost the better they are. His twittering ramblings always read like "poor little rich kid" who can't decide what to spend his next million on...
He's boring - needless to say, I shall not be watching...
I predict two more series of Top Gear, three at most, with steadily declining viewing figures before the BBC kill it off - which is what they have been wanting for years...

  5. He's a lying bustard
In 1972 on Tomorrow's World he promised me by 2000 we would be living on the moon with hover boards and girls in shiny silver cat suits and we'd only need to work 3 days a week and eat a pill for a 3 course meal. And we'd have cured everything by now as well.
Even the things he got right are crap, mobile communications just mean I get hassled by work 7 days a week, satellite TV is 150 channels of utter garbage and CDs wear out.

On reflection some of that may have been UFO and Back to the Future.
    My rant still applies though.

  7. I do :Shy:

  8. Decent motor racing commentator & a very good air show commentator in the days when the BBC used to cover the Farnborough Airshow. He was also a capable rally driver & competed in the Monte Carlo Rally 12 times.

  9. I remember Raymond Baxter well, but I remember rather better his son, Graham Baxter, who was a contemporary of mine at Univ. Graham drove around in an American car, which was quite a rarity in 1969.

  10. His tinned Scottish Broth was pretty nourishing too.

  18. You've got to be kidding. With the average age on this forum? Just about everyone remembers him.

But do they remember that he had a fracas with his gardener? Can't remember what it was all about, just that it was reported.

  19. Best headline of the day - The Sun :
    "Carrot Top Gear"
