Evening all Can anyone advise/recommend garage flooring. I think I will paint. Should I get Polyurethane or epoxy and what's the difference? Do I need a sealer down first? At the moment I have dusty, fairly bumpy concrete. Thanks
Had the saame, spent a load on some floor paint, wore off in no time and was still dusty. £80 on foam flooring from halfords was a far better investment imho. No dust, easy to see thungs that are dropped and easier on the knees.
You'll need to get the floor diamond ground first to remove the laitence and old coatings first. Best to degrease it too. Two coats of a two pack epoxy. 10kgs will do 40sqm approx. (Per coat) 12 inch roller will get it out even for you Sika 264 is a good product, I've used it on 1000s of sqm without problems
I prefer a sealed hard floor. It needs to be prepared properly and this means understanding what you have. It needs to be clean if anything is going to take. Having he foam or carpet is great for the knees but a pain when moving anything heavy with rollers etc. IMHO. Not an expert, just based on my preference and a history of getting wrong.
Carpet tiles are brilliant. Reclaimed from offices. Standard single garage is about 52 tiles of 50x50. Cost me £20 for 65 or so tiles on ebay. I painted it when I moved in, it was OK, but chipped as things fell/dropped on it. Also the carpet tiles mean it's warmer and you can just get on your knees and work on whatever you need to without worrying. Spill something, don't worry, just swap them out for some more tiles. I've stuck down the row at the front of garage, but the rest are loose. Make sure they're fairly tight fitting and they don't budge.
I have just put down the foam tiles as recommended by bradders.Delighted with them.I am going to put some ally plate down where the old bike is going and then I can play with her as and when.the foam flooring will be nice to sit or stand on.
http://www.halfords.com/kids-zone/c...s/rolson-8pc-coloured-inter-locking-floor-mat Do you mean these ? How does the edge sit where vehicles enter and leave the garage ?
The ones I bought were the same product but black.I ordered them online and had them delivered for free.the makers name is 'Rolson'.
They are often £10.00 for the black ones but sometimes £20.00 - typical Halfords. I have also noticed they sometime have thinner ones than I bought too. They come with edging strips.
How does the edge of the Rolson tile at the entrance to the garage stand up to being repeatedly driven over ?
What I did with my garage floor when I moved in was to just use some polyeurothene floor paint from toolstation. I got a big barrel of it for about 40quid iirc. They did it in loads of colours, so I went with a nice blue. I hoovered the bare concrete floor with the wifes dyson (she wasnt overly pleased), then gave it 3 coats with a roller of the floor paint. Didnt bother sealing it or anything as I was in a rush to get it all done. I left some electric heaters in there on as it was approaching winter time and wasnt the warmest. I wasnt expecting much results to be fair - just wanted something which looked nice, didnt create a lot of dust and was easy to clean. 4 years on and it still looks good. Its chipped off in a couple of places where ive scrapped heavy metal objects - but thats to be expected. Ive done tons of welding, hammering, grinding and subjected the floor to more abuse than I guess the "average" person would, and it still looks really good. I only used about 2/3rds of the barrel of paint in the end on my double garage, so if I had the time (and was ever in the position where id be able to empty some of the garage out, I could always "top up" with another coat if required.
Can't see any barrels o nthe website, only 5L tins. Only looks like grey too. I was thinking Ducati Anniversary Red would be nice.
