Was supposed to be testing a DVT bike yesterday but the previous tester was late getting back so I only got a sit on it late in the day. To those who had a 1200 and now have a DVT how does the riding position compare when the DVT seat is on the high position. The seat was on low position on the test bike but have to say i didn't like being sat so low on the bike. I love the commanding position I have on my 2013 1200.
For me, there was a significant difference between the low and high seat positions. I just couldnt cut it with the low position. But, when on high, the seat is fine, but the bars are too low. I have a 2013 GT, which has higher bars. So, when do get a DVT, I will have to have higher bars fitted.
That is really a hard Question to answer, everyone is so different what is good to one you might hate. For me The 90% reason for change is I am very short and a huge difference for me to touch ground, I think my old 2014 with Sargent seat more comfortable, quite a bit when riding, and legs etc a little more comfortable to. The new seat pushes you forward, I have it in the low position and when you want to sit back you are sitting higher, it is not uncomfortable but feels a little odd, but you get used to it. I think the newer bike is a little more cramped in my legs, but so far I have not done many many miles in the saddle straight off over a day, most is like 200 in a day spread out over day. I am sure there will be other seat alternatives to choose for taller people but for someone short like me I am not to sure a lot can be changed. I have done around 1.3k miles now and my personal thinking is and I will be honest if I was like 2 or 3 " taller I would seriously think before getting the DVT, do not get me wrong it is a great bike and true most things are a little improvement in some ways, but the engine is very different, and I miss the initial punch at lower revs and the sheer power of the engine breaking at lower revs. I MIGHT ADD there is suppose to be an engine upgrade software update that according to at least one person improves the lower end of the engine and makes it more responsive, I hope to have it updated next week, this update could make me feel very different. The DVT is a Great Bike all round, more polished and smoother, but for me the 2014 Touring S WAS a GREAT Bike, just way too tall for me to feel comfortable all the time when slow maneuvering, or if cambers change on stopping, dropped it once, when weight transferred and had quite a few close ones when I have had to jump across the Seat to get other foot down, For for me it was fore gone conclusion to upgrade.
Coming from the 2013 MTS to the DVT I have the DVT seat in the high position and would actually like it a bit higher. Just got the Comfort seat so need to get that bedded in to my backside. I have noticed that the comfort seat does not feel like you are slipping towards the tank - it feels flatter. There is no way I would have the low seat position on the DVT it would be uncomfortable for me, BTW - 5' 10" and 31" leg.
For the first 600 odd miles I tried the seat in the low position: I could easily flat foot both sides (5'9" / 30" leg) however it felt like the seat slopped into the tank and I was being forced to sit too far forward. I also found my knee angle at bit too acute. I've since done 800 miles with the seat in the high position: I can nearly flat foot both sides. I find the seat more comfortable as I'm able to sit a bit further back. The knee angle is better as well. Overall I prefer the higher position. I didn't notice much difference with the additional height providing better visibility through / over cars. I did a couple of 270 mile / 7 hour days and found the seat comfortable enough, so much so I didn't feel the need to get the AirHawk seat cushion out of the panniers. On my 2010 and 2013 bike I could never get close to flat footing both sides, even with lowered seats. I ended up getting a lowered Sargent seat on my 2013 bike as I couldn't get on with the standard or lowered OEM seats.
I rented the 2014 for a full-day test-ride, and really felt the distance to the ground, like being on top of an inverted pendulum. On the 2015 I feel much more _in_ the bike... but with a 34" inseam, even with the seat raised, I'd like another inch of height on it. My hips and knees definitely feel that extra bit of bend. That said, it didn't stop me chasing a Lotus down the Autobahn on Saturday - I only limited it to 170-ish because I'm still running the engine in, and the panniers are not rated for anything higher. I'll also mention that it's not _that_ she'll do that speed so handily; it's the _way_ she gets there that puts a big grin on my face.
Kilometres - I'm on the continent, remember? She might actually be good for 270; the question is, am _I_?
Damn. I saw an indicated 230Kph on my VTR almost 15 years ago, and was hoping to see a decent margin over that with all the added R&D and engine capacity. Should I ask how you came up with that number?
You are expecting 170 mph from a 225kg bike with the aerodynamics of a large deployed sail into s headwind. Good luck I have seen indicated >140mph on mine
