  1. Obviously not the place to be looking. But if anybody knows of an original 1998 Red/White Yamaha R1 for sale. I'm in the market for a little nostalgia.

  2. Eeeerrgghhhh - you fashionista you ;) Everyone hated the red seat so bought blue bikes in1998 - now everyone wants a red and white one :Bucktooth:

I have a brand new 4XV :D in the much improved and more popular 1999 Red / Black and White scheme :Angelic: not for sale though (yet)

  4. Actually I prefered the blue at the time too, funny that.

I need a little nostalgia in my life, R1, SP1, early Fireblade, RD350LC. Something that brings back memories.

  5. My mate has just bought a stunning SP1 with under 2000 miles on it - dripping in HRC extras and Japanese Magnesium Wheels for £8K. Absolute bargain when you see the extras list :Wideyed:

  7. Thanks Weeksy, but I wan't something cleaner than that. I'll hang on, no rush.

It always amazes me how one man's "Very good condition" is another man's hound. He thinks he's got something that he hasn't; in my eyes.

  10. That bike is my bike, honestly my reasoning behind saying very good condition I think it is for its age, its is in good condition for a 17 year old bike, apart from pegs levers and pipe its all original, a few fastners are scabby a days or so work to put right, and bodywork has marks but is original and has no repairs what you see is what you get no hidden suprises no Chinese aftermarket fairing, new chain sprockets, spare keys, full service history from new and I believe every MOT from new its only done 20 odd k I think 21k but would have to check, and price wise its what its worth, you can get blues ones for £1800 upwards to £4000k for a minter, I didn't describe my bike as excellent condition or mint, you have your opinion and I have mine, the last mint R1 I saw with the red seat went for nearly 7k at fastline, and ive seen worst ones than mine with a lot higher mileage go for more, these are the easiest bikes to paint as apart from the nosecone they are one colour panels, and the graphics are readily available, anyway ive got two rd350 ypvs forsale shortly aswell :) im not pissed off you have your opinion and so do I, and ive never owned a ducati but im looking

  11. Ohh and going to look at a SP1 sunday :p

  12. I fully respect your right to reply and your opinion. I have no intention of getting into a bun fight, it's just not a bike I'd be interested in.

Good luck in your sale and your search for an SP1

  13. Everyone wanted the blue one. The red/white just didnt look right, bit too strange I think. I actually heard stories at the time of dealers being stuck with red/white ones which they just couldnt sell and actually having them resprayed blue in order to off-load. Up shot of this is that now the red/white ones are a lot rarer!

I bought my 1999 4XV R1 (in blue!) back in 2001 and still have it now. Ive looked at various other 4 pot bikes over the years but nothing else just "does it" for me. Cracking bikes. Easy to service and still runs on carbs. Ive done various mods/tweeks to mine over the years and on the road its all over much newer bikes. The performance, the brakes, the handling... amazing. I still get the same buzz now from it as I did when I bought it 14 years ago. Insurance on it last year was £60 a year. Cant beat it!

  14. There are a lot of nice 1999 ones about, and I do like them. Maybe food for thought.

  15. Indeed. The original 1998 one will always be the most collectable, but if your after something to ride & still get that original R1 character, very little changes were made for the 1999 version. Different stickers, gear change linkage was altered to make gear shifts better and thats about it. Still, one thing to seriously check on any 98/99 R1, is that it does select the gears nice and smoothly when your out on the road. The gear selector which does 2nd (& 4th gear I think) is made out of chocolate and as these bikes are wheelie monsters, with 2nd gear being the gear of choice (on/off throttle or slight slip of the clutch at 5k will see the front come straight up, then the bike can hit 115mph in 2nd before the redline), the selector can get bent as people crash the gears up from 2nd to 3rd. Result can be it sometimes jumps out of gear under power in 2nd etc. I know, cos mine did this after about 45k of wheelie abuse. doh!
