Is Our Universe a Fake? - Yahoo News UK Here's one to get the lovers of "science knows everything" talking...
Unfortunately we will not realise our full potential or meaning in my life time. However if you can answer the question "Why were you born" then you have already embarked on the joinery of enlightenment crass hopper
Not as many replies from the "academics" as I was expecting - maybe I'm not being provocative enough these days ? Maybe if I was to say "science can't prove that this guy is wrong" it may start them off...
Simple contradiction does not constitue an arguement. Was this a 5 minute arguement or do you want the full half hour ? Andy
It wasn't an argument, it was simply a notification for everyone that I was one of the intellectuals :Bucktooth:
Unfortunately no one has the intelligence or the inclination to argue this point to a satisfactory conclusion
Lots of people use the occurrence of unlikely coincidences as "evidence" that there is "a glitch in the programme", or such a thing as fate or destiny. I know, because I'm one of those people, on occasion Like that time when someone on the forum mentioned that they were listening to KD Lang's Constant Craving song and I read their post whilst listening, for the very first time, to the very same song and at the same time, I was reading a novel by Stephen King that featured a dedication page that, yes, had a verse from that very same song on it. All within an hour. Uncounted billions of occurrences occur simultaneously, at every instant. As human beings, we have evolved to see patterns in events - we see faces in our bowl of cornflakes, we find meaning in coincidence. I experience a real "Whoa" moment, in true Keanu Reeves fashion, practically every week. The only thing we can say with any certitude is that things that are entirely outside of our experience and beyond our comprehension are fairly impenetrable to our current level of understanding and our current capabilities in terms of logic and extrapolation. It's safe to say that any sentient being which is wholly contained within an environment - be that a locked room, a world, a universe or indeed, a computer programme - will be incapable of truly thinking outside of the box they are in. You can only properly analyse a system if you are not wholly bounded by it. At least, that is why I inferred when I happened upon a discarded shoelace this morning that was shaped like an infinity symbol.
First of all, no, the Universe as we experience it is no more a fake than a fake painting is any less a painting, whatever name is ascribed to it. Secondly it is irrelevant, even if what we experience is artificially constructed, since it is an entire, self regulating system within which whatever we are, is an integral part. 'Fate' is a mostly misunderstood and misused word. It is the name ascribed to the inevitable, unchangable process of everything. By it's nature, as an integral part of that system, for us it is impossible to know all of it or alter it. Whatever you do within such a system is predictable and inevitable, but only perceptible from without of the system.... which is thus impossible, since such an observer would merely be an extension of the system on a greater scale. Non of this actually matters to us tiny specks of the great continuum, so I suggest you accept it at a purely intellectual level and get on with life as well as you may.
Not true...... I have both the intelligence and the inclination to make a fruitful contribution. I am sure that anything I contribute is easily within the intellect of our readership. It isn't that complicated a question.
"It's safe to say that any sentient being which is wholly contained within an environment - be that a locked room, a world, a universe or indeed, a computer programme - will be incapable of truly thinking outside of the box they are in. You can only properly analyse a system if you are not wholly bounded by it." Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with that idea, I can think of one or two people on here who would argue against it. The narrow-minded academia fanatics who believe that science can, and does, know everything...
my right boobie is fake....well actually it's not there at all.....but it will be next year....fake that is,or it might be real :Bucktooth: Right ....off for a shower now that I've confused you all :Wtf:
