I've joined a few other motorcycle forums recently, and quite a few have rules which prevent people joining to immediately try to sell something, or to put bikes etc up for sale without a price. As an example, the RD LC Forum states:- "Classifieds To encourage the use of the forum for its members and the correct use of this board, the classified section is hidden until you reach 10 post's. You then will become "L plate rider" and you will then have full access to the board and all it has to offer. Please reed the rooles before placing an add. This is to encourage members to join in, and help people and not simply to flog stuff or post E-Bay links and nothing else. The forum is an lc community of which we have a large majority of like minded enthusiasts, other sites have had to add a "paid up member" contributions to view these sections we do not just say Hi post a picture of your bike and in a couple of days you will have 25 post. Only 2 rools. Be Honest when describing and PUT A PRICE no make an offers this is not E-Bay , Be right with people and they will be right with you when your looking for parts." Obviously there are pro's and cons to this - personally, don't like ads which request "offers", and am somewhat uneasy about people whose first action on joining, is not to introduce themselves, but to try and flog something. Plus we seem to still get the odd scammer/spammer who puts a suspicious link up coupled to a cryptic nonsensical message. Not sure how you stop these?
People have to make a minimum of 10 posts here too. I manage to catch at least 3 spammers a day (sometimes more) through some forum software we have in place. Occasionally the odd one does get through. If they do please report them to me and I will immediately ban them and delete the post. thanks.
To play Devils advocate. It doesn't have to be all negative. It can be an opportunity for forum members to purchase something they want at a good price.
Same on the audi. TT forum , think it is even more than 10 posts ,,,,,, but as has been said , it can be a good op for membs to buy some stuff .
I agree that its a good thing as some people join to sell stuff before it goes on ebay at a inflated price. Making people post on something they dont have interest is pointless. About 2 months ago i had a load of retro computer games and consoles to sell (nintendo, SNES mega drive, atarri etc) and i joined a few forums to sell the items. Id no other interest than to simply sell them and id never return. I was stopped on most forums from advertising until i had 10 posts so i simply started a thread on one asking about values of what i had. It actualy helped me as i thought the whole lot might have been worth £200. Turns out i had some indivudal games worth £150 alone and i had 50 or 60 games. Sudddenly i was everyones best mate once they realised i had games in mint condition even the mods that stopped me posting wanted a bit.
It's no good selling Ducati parts on an KTM site I don't see any reason why someone can't come here and sell Ducati parts Who wants to buy from stealbay Clear and concise adverts with prices should be a must
Ha ha ha ,,,,,,,all you comedians ,,,,,,,, you might be a bit surprised how similar th TT forum is to this one ,,,,,,,,, as we know , it is not all fairies who own Ducatis
