I thought something wasn't quite right. I put the bike on the centrestand tonight and with my thumb pressing against the lower shock mount and the swing arm, if I rock the bike gently back and forth so the rear tyre touches the ground and then lifts off, I can feel movement at that joint as well as hear a slight clunk. So I believe the rear shock lower mount needs tightening up before it wears oval. Can anyone else with a centre stand check theirs please and let me know if you have the same movement and audible clonking. I've done 3000 miles and most of that was with heavy luggage.
Just checked mine, I to can hear and feel slight movement/slop at this point but i'm guessing its more a slightly over sized bushing issue than something that has got loose, will have to keep an eye on it.
The rear shock will be on a bush that allows some movement, certainly every shock I have ever seen is
I had my checked by the dealer and compared to a brand new bike they were prepping. Normal to have the amount of movement I have, just as you said Bradders.
As above there will always be a bit of movement in the bush but what shouldn't happen is the lower mounting point fills with water when you wash the bike and then you have to accelerate and brake hard to shift it
yes agreed JimVee. I don't really wash bikes now. I used to wash my bike every weekend when I was young and had time, and partly because a black Kawasaki Ninja needed washing regularly, but I found my wheel bearings and chains were always dying early from rust! I wipe over the plastics and carefully use detergent and a gentle water jet from a garden hose to shift the shit that collects where it can be seen. I try to minimise how much water I use near metal parts.
