That was actually my bike being lovingly put together (I think). Went to the factory and the video is a pretty good reflection of reality. Very strange and a bit surreal to see groups of tourists walking the factory floor in trainers, shorts etc. Calls of "mind the fork lift everybody" beep beep beep. All watching a group of workers putting Ducati bikes together - who were also wearing trainers, shorts and Ducati t-shirts! No hard hats, no hi vis, no steel toe caps. Very, very refreshingly brilliant to see! And guess what? On my visit I didn't hear of a single person being killed which was all very unbelievable because at least three hundred and forty eight should have been :Meh: Lets hope the H&S police don't cotton on to it. They are in the EU as are we and we are told our own clinical environments are a result of EU legislation. The bloody EU eh?
good video, nice to see how some of the components go in. (lots of "tap-ing something in as a last step" I noticed, its a like a final move in most assemblies)
@Exige exacly how the evoque is built, eh Cant believe they cant match production to demand....slackers!
I know there game, they don't want to for fill all the orders to fast, they know once their done they will be sent down to the spares packing department for all the warranty claims.
That wasn't the production line :Facepalm: it's exactly how the Evoque was built when I was there yes, the first few took more than a week each That was an off line promo video, is that not obvious :Wideyed:
Having never been I cant say. Have you? That video is excatly how the production line has been described to me. Andother than pre production an evoque was never built by hand like that
The Ducati production line is a basic semi automated line - there is probably 20 times or more people on a JLR automated line doing equally dextrous hand assembly manipulations if not more so. Really don't know if you have a point you are trying to get across - on a manual production line you don't have 2 people building 1 bike, and you don't have just one of each component in the supply chain on a shelf as in this video. This has nothing to do with why they are no longer making 899's due to the slow production method - the fact is you can easily increase a manual line over the out put of an automated line with it's designed in takt time. I would guess the manual line at Ducati would have a takt time of around 2 to 3 minutes for one of their higher volume products. Spell out what you mean and we can have a debate :Bucktooth:

Totally and utterly wrong, but you will of course have far greater knowledge that me in this area they are not failing to keep up with demand for 899's - they are not making any. They are not building 100% Scramblers instead on the same line as it's the premium models bring in more revenue per capital employed.

:Facepalm: JLR: Every single station for a few hundred meters has between 4 and 8 people on the assembly line, that's hundreds per shift - the sub line for door build has a bout 100 people and this line is very much in line with Ducati's main production line feeding a sub component to the main line (consider this point while assessing your theories of production ramp up as this line is never the bottle neck due to it's nature). Your first picture isn't an assembly line at all - it is the automated body shop at Solihull which manufactures what is essentially an in-feed component to the assembly line :smile::Happy:
