The wonderful Oliver Sacks has sadly died, of cancer. He was a brilliant, gripping writer and thinker, scientist, traveller, weightlifter, motorcyclist, neurologist, humanist and homosexual. One of his books was the famous "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat". Above is a photo of him in 1961.

  5. One of the many things Sacks did during his career as a doctor and neurologist was find a way to wake up patients who had been "frozen" mentally for years, using drug therapies. He wrote up his case notes on several cases into a popular book, which was later made into a film.

It's pretty unusual (maybe unique) for medical case notes to be turned into a film script.

  6. I'd love it of someone could think of a way of making a film of An Anthropologist On Mars.
An amazing exploration of consciousness, that one. Extraordinary.
