748 Front Tyre Size?

  1. guys

I'm thinking of a new set of Michelin power super sport evo tyres.

    They only come as a 120/70/17 front. The 748 is a 120/60?

Any issues running a 120/70, or should I choose something else?

I want a super sticky road tyre, I'm not bothered how long they last, just want to best grip possible.

  2. 70 is better

  3. Many people use the 120/70 and I do on all my bikes as the tyre fills the rim better. I know someone who crashed on a 748 because he ran off the rim on the tyre due to the thin profile the 120/60 takes.

If you do any trackdays or spirited riding then the 120/70 is without doubt the way to go.

  4. Cheers chaps.

I think I'll go for supercorsas instead in the 70 profile.

  5. Same front end as a 916/996/998 and they all had the 70.

  6. Just check there's a 5mm gap between tyre and mudguard and you should be fine :upyeah:

  7. Rather late to this thread, so I'm wondering how you got on.
My owners handbook shows both 60 & 70 options for 748SPS
If, like me, you're used to a 60 profile, putting a 70 on will cause under steer unless you raise the back by ~6mm. 65 is common on track, but using steeper head angle.

  8. I only ever used 70 on my 748 and my mates 748r has a 70 on the front and rides fine, doesn't seem to under steer but i have a feeling it's been raised slightly at the back.
