1200 DVT Several Weeks In

  1. After several weeks into the new DVT I can't get over this headlight. As with what seems to be all poorly PDI'd DVTs the headlight was pointing at the tree tops upon delivery. I have it lowered as far as it will go and now the low beam is right about where I'd want the high beam to be. Still get oncoming flashing their lights but it's good for almost all speeds. Switching to high beam results in a dark ghastly yellow glow as the tiny high beam spot is lost in the distance, not even pointing at the road.
(I still can't understand the tiny high beam spot surrounded by a dark ring and then a pale yellow. That doesn't work for me at all).
Front preload is backed off completly and rear is set to two up but I ride single. This was an attempt to point the headlight down a bit but has had no effect.
Not sure how the sag should perform on this system but when I sit on the bike the rear goes down much more than the front even though the front preload is minimum and rear is at passenger. I've always thought both ends should compress evenly

The cornering lights come on but only light an area very close to the bike where I'd never be looking. An interesting idea but doesn't actually light up anything.

Oh, and of course the fuel guage is at zero always, but I was expecting that.

  2. I take it the dealer has an MOT station out back so they know exactly where the headlights should be pointing. Take it back and make them do the work.

  3. Oh it will be going in for sure. I know they will say "it's as low as it will go" which is when I'll insist on a new led unit.
Even if the high beam was correctly pointed I don't now how I can deal with the pale yellow. I thought this headlight would turn night into day.

  4. Too high and it'll fail an MOT so they can't really argue with that

  5. I'm guessing with your light problem, but may be the light unit hasn't been fitted correctly. if they can mess up alignment on the faring's I'm assuming they can do the same with other bolt/clip on stuff.

  6. True about the fit. Also any minor discrepancy at the source, will be amplified the further away the light shines.

  7. I agree, the headlight cowl is separate from the faring and rubber mounted so that would be something to look at. I have a feeling that even with the high properly aimed I expect it to be underwhelming. I'm sure a pair of Baja Designs LED aux will solve this issue.

  8. This seems to be the normal setup for a newly delivered bike, I can't imagine why. My 2010 was just the same, but lowering the beam on that model was fairly simple, just a couple of screws in the back of the fairing behind the lights will adjust them. But, having adjusted them you might still be disappointed, I know my 2010 high beams are next to useless, even correctly adjusted. One reason I might have upgraded to a DVT model would be good headlights promised by the LED setup, so I'm disappointed to hear they are still crap. I guess I'll stick with my 2010.

  9. The headlamps on my 2015 DVT are a substantial improvement over the 2011 Multi. In fact they are brilliant and I am very pleased with them. I cannot agree they are "still crap".

  10. I agree with Pete1950. I work shifts and live in a village in the Norfolk countryside. As you can imagine, there are zero street lights in my neck of the woods and the headlight, dipped and high beam on my DVT are excellent. if they weren't, I would have been in a hedge by now.

I thought my GSXR 750 L1 headlight was good, bit the DVT is better. IMHO.

  11. So nobody notices the dark ring around the concentrated center spot and the pale yellow glow outside that?
Maybe I have a defective led unit.

  12. Hmmm, I'll have a look how mine are in that set up and get back to you although the spread of the low beam looks similar. I haven't positioned in front of a garage and tried them like that yet.

  13. Do you have a standard DVT?
I'm sure others will correct me pretty quickly on this but I believe the standard DVT has a halogen main beam and the S version is LED's both dip and main.

It looks like it in the pictures.

  15. I am very glad to hear that, and happy to be corrected.

  16. This is the S version, full LED. I'm thinking defective headlight unit. I can't imagine any bike having that kind of high beam spread (or lack of spread)

  17. Mine is used for spotting UFOs, or at least I assume it is, given its direction

  18. That's your fault for pointing the front wheel skywards all the time :)

  19. Ha not even one on the dvt. Must try harder...
