  5. Not sure that's a widely accepted fact.
I know that we see faces in many things as we are programmed as babies to look for this.

  6. my 2 younger brothers have the exact same birth date... mind you they are twins

  10. lol true that! we didnt actually have a plan, just got to Bangkok, picked a few places on the map and flipped a coin. did the same for transport. mind you the only other white guy on the overnight train paid £200.00 england side for a journey that cost us just on 2 quid.. it was an eye opener of a train ride and worth every penny (just)

  17. 15 years ago self and the former Mrs Gimlet were walking around the base of Uluru (Ayres Rock, Aus). The site is owned by aboriginal people and at various points around the rock there are sites which are sacred to the memory of female ancestors and sites which are sacred to males. At these sites there are notices requesting visitors not to take photographs as doing so is offensive to the spirits of these ancestors. We encountered quite a few local aboriginal people en-route and so naturally respected their customs and refrained from taking photographs.
After the walk the former Mrs Gimlet went on a light aircraft sight-seeing flight over the rock (a birthday present from her mother). As there was no-one there to see her she took about a dozen photographs of the rock from various angles. When the film was developed (this was 15 years ago) all the photos of the rock itself were blank but the rest of the pictures on the film were fine, including a photo of the Uluru resort where we were staying which she had also taken from the plane.

  18. OK, Coincidence, Fate or just plain Unlucky???

WW2……My uncle (mother’s brother) was in the RAF.
After some time being on Halifax and Wellington bombers; sometimes as Flight Engineer, sometimes as Navigator; he got seconded to the RCAF 428 (Ghost) Sqdn based at Middleton St George.

On 24th July 1944 he was Flight Eng in Lancaster X KB740 on its first operational flight for a raid on Stuttgart.
It collided with another Lancaster X (KB743……remember that number) over France and had to crash land just making it back to Suffolk on 25th July 1944.

KB 743 could not continue its operation and landed back at base.
    KB 740 was written off.

Having got back to Middleton, he was with a different crew on another Lancaster X……..they took off on 18th August 1944 on a massive raid on Bremen where over 2000 tons of bombs were dropped……A bomber above them dropped its bombs which hit the tail of his Lancaster and apart from the rear gunner, they all baled out.

His Lancaster already on its way down was attacked by a German fighter and finished off.
My uncle and his crew were captured…….some of them went to Stalag Luft III (Sagan, Silesia….the Great Escape camp) and my uncle was sent to Stalag Luft 7 (Bankau, Upper Silesia), where he stayed until the Germans marched them off on the Long / Death March to SL III and followed the prisoners from there after they had already left.

Remember that number? Got it in one……The plane my uncle had to bale out from was KB743…….the one that had knocked them out of the sky earlier in July.
