749 Buying 2003 Ducati 749

  1. I would buy the 06 bike.

  2. and 30kklm is only really 3-4 oil changes. don't get to stressed on service history. if it sounds ok. chances are it is ok. the thousands people pay to keep a few hundred on the value always amuses me.

  3. The early 749 has better suspension and engine power, also adjustable headstock... but the later has nicer cosmetics and a fab swinging arm...

  4. I would get the later 06 one, more up to date fairings and nicer swingarm.

  5. neither,, wait for late " S"..

  7. I'd get the 06.
    Looks nicer.
I had an earlier model. It always felt as if the front was going to tuck, and I never found out why. Doubt they are all like that though (although mine was brand new).

  8. Thanks guys. If I would go for the 06 model I will be definitely interested to upgrade the exhaust to Termignoni later. Do you know whether it's hard to get, where to look for it and much it costs?

    Cheers,
    Tomas

  9. Why?
The standard one is fine. It's black, it's not an eyesore. It probably makes enough noise.

  10. Nah, the standard one doesn't make enough noise. I would recommend the upgrade.
As far as finding one goes. They do pop up frequently, but the trick is to find the right one for your bike. Swingarm, Deep/shallow Sump.

Besides extra noise the termi will save you a few pounds in weight!

If you get the right map aswell you'll get a lot better performance in the mid rev range.

  11. of course you will want the " S",, try to find late model with Termi already fitted , save all the set up hassle.

  12. I think 749S late model could be too expensive for me right now. Maybe it would be better to go for the 2005 which is an "S" model and have Termignoni exhaust. I don't mind the looks of the earlier model, actually I like both early and late. Is there a big difference in the new swingarm?

    Cheers,
    Tomas

  13. 2003 & 2004 are the earlier models. The later models with Black Swingarm are 2005 & 2006

  14. Later black/box arm is slighly lighter and stronger but there is nothing wrong with the early grey arm.
749S have showa rear suspension and tin(gold) fork legs same as 999 base.
749 base have sach rear and chrome fork legs.
S 749 are slightly higher bhp than base.
The 05/06 models are a few bhp up on 03/04 bikes and have improved electrics.

  15. Dont confuse model year with when it was registered. Later bikes have red frame/black wheels and there are some MY04 bikes around that the factory upgraded with facelift fairing and black arm to shift old stock. They have silver frame.

  16. better
ok,, no prob,, dont bother about the Termi for now then , just get the late model S and get the add ons later when you can afford them..main diff ( for me anyway ) is that black box ( later ) swing arm looks so oo much better..as does red frame and later fairing..

  18. Thank you all for helping, but finally I decided not to buy in UK as it would be a bit expensive for me. I got myself a GSX-R 600 instead. So I guess next year I will be looking to change it to Ducati... I just love the sound of two cylinder with termignoni :)

    Cheers,
    Tomas

  19. Tomas you have missed out on a life changing experience
    Big mistake maybe.
Hope the gixer serves you well.
    Cheers, Keith.

  20. Shame but I'm sure you will be happy with your gsxr.
