1200 If This Engines Gone Again I'm Leaving Ducati!

  1. So I had an engine rebuild done in April. Heads replaced and rebuild/service as a cam sheared off taking most of the engine with it. Done about 300 miles on it today and what started as a tinkling noise has developed into quite a vibration. It's like pulling away in 2nd.

I still have my 1 year used bike warranty with P&H but they're probably still stinging from forking out for the first problem. They'll probably tell me I'm not covered now.

Getting a bit sick of riding a bike and trying to listen/feel for any hint of a problem. Not exactly care free ownership.

  2. Sorry to hear that! Is it already booked in? It should be covered for a year from any work done, if not by them then under one of the trades descriptions acts. Give them a chance first to sort it for u but sounds really serious, I wouldn't ride it much more

  3. Got to get home yet. In central London at the mo so will take it easy and keep a hand over the clutch.

  4. Hope you get home ok, and it's not a major problem

  5. Nightmare jh-1986 hope its a smallish issue that is rectified quick sharp & I'd think the same would be in the minds of your dealer.

  6. Had an 848 in the past and that was fine but I've had issues since I got this one. Just grates on me that I should have gotten another bike and not gone with the 'I'm sure I won't get a dud one' attitude. Last weekend I was telling my wife how much I love riding it.

  7. You were warned!:D

  8. Right. Last job of the day done. Now to start the shake, rattle and ride home [emoji100]

  10. Bummer mate.

Think we're supposed to refer to this sort of thing as the bike having character or summat...

  11. Well... I'm home. Comes and goes randomly. It's like being in a gear too high, you feel it through the pegs and bars. Going to whip the belt cover off and take a look quickly. Tempted to do an oil and filter and look for any 'presents' I've been left in the oil. I've got oil and a filter sitting in the garage.

  12. Bummer, hope it gets sorted. I love ridding mine too. Would hate it if mine goes wrong.

  13. Sounds like we have similar experiences with our Multis so far. Mines a 2010S

I have not had a major issue yet, just quite a few niggles, every time I get on and start it, its a bit like "phew" when it starts.. I dont use it as a ride to work, so I started it the other day and got about a mile up the road, I noticed my music wasnt playing so stopped to sort it out, when I pulled over I had oil burning off the engine and what looked like a good plume coming out the exhausts.. it settled down so I carried on. But it does get me thinking is this the bike for me, on a bike that I will use to run a lot of miles and tour on the last thing you need is wondering if it will break down every day.

The next day I went straight onto the web to look at alternative adventure type bikes, thinking fuck it I will get a new one. BUT non of the others look as good, seem to have the same spirit as the multi.. so for now I have done nothing

A mate bought a new Tiger for just over 10K, its not as sexy as this one and not as blingy ( I love the onboard suspension change most I think). But I think I may go and have a peak at one. I do like the whole adventure bike style at my age and what I want out of a road bike its perfect, but I not sure I can stand the constant worry on will it start, what will go wrong next etc..

If it was reliable and I believed it, its the best road bike I could ever want and would be happy to keep it for years.

    What to do?

  14. I completely agree. I adore it and hate it at the same time. I've got the 2010 Touring S too and I can't think of a more perfect bike... Apart from a working one.

Had it up to some decent speeds on the way home thinking 'fuck it, if it goes it goes'. It was fine. Temp was fine too. Just comes and goes during the ride and you really notice it in the low gears at low speed such as pulling up to traffic lights and using the rear brake. You can feel the shake through the pegs and pedal.

Belts look fine, as do the pulley surfaces. Can't be arsed to do oil and filter tonight. Whilst it's still in warranty I don't really want to give them an excuse to dodge it. P&H run their service schedules on an Olympic calendar though. They'll get you in every few years.

  15. Good luck with it, still think I might have a wander down to the Triumph garage for a test ride, I am sure the bike will be less exciting but will the feeling of reasonable reliability pull me over?

    Fucking thing

  16. I'm pining for my old KTM 990 SMR. That thing didn't go wrong and was just as fun.

  17. Engine mounting bolts nice and tight?

  18. Wouldn't be random then. Would be constant. Racking my brain as to what it could be that comes and goes. Also trying to work out what the tinkling noise is. It's like a pinging noise, like a cooling engine but loads of it and faster

  19. Have you had a good look around the rear brake? Have you lock wired anything that could have come loose?
