Hi renewed my bike insurance with Carole Nash in July, just had a letter saying I had an undeclared claim on my car insurance so send a cheque for £90! Which is about 80% of the total premium. . It was a bump in B&q car park which was knock for knock. I had protected no claims so no effect on my car insurance and when I renewed the policy it actually went down. I have 13 years bike no claims and was not aware I was supposed to declare trivial car claims. I have contacted 3 other insurers, 2 said they don't need to know & 1 said declare it but it won't affect premium. Not too happy with Carole Nash! Anybody else had a problem with this? Be aware if you have car claims.
Personaly I would cancel the policy, get back what you can regards premiums paid and go with someone else.
I had the same thing with the RAC. My company car was dmaged when parked and the scumbag did a runner. It was settled through the company car insurance supplied with the car, I paid the £250 excess and I thought no more of it. Renewal time on my scooter, I declare no accidents and pay the £80 premium. I get a letter 2 weeks down the line demanding £60 for an undeclared claim. I then had to declare this claim for the next 5 years on 4 bike policies. It cost me far more in increased premiums then the original claim of £1,200. I've never yet had a letter from an insurance company wanting to give me money back, strange that.
I did the sums at the time when it happened to me (above). It worked out no cheaper to cancel it, in my case anyway.
You failed to declare all the details required to the insurers. I'm not quite sure what you expected. They could have refused to pay out on a claim if they so wished, if you had made one.
Although I havent had the same issue with undeclared trivia claims I did however cancel my policy with Carole Nash due to what I consider a typical example of the illogical stupidity common in the industry. I live in an apartment just off a main road with open parking, there is also a railway "park and ride" car park near by that has seen a high level of theft and damage to vehicles. When I purchased my DVT there was no way I was going to leave it in my parking space for the great unwashed to view on a daily basis as an open invitation to help themselves. My proposed solution to CN was to keep the bike indoors at work, fully secured with a professional building alarm system and security cameras. CN refused to cover me under this scheme but were more than happy to cover me if the bike was kept at the apartment parking space! wtf!! Not finding that acceptable I moved to another insurance company who were happy with this measure of security at my workplace. The only thing that they wouldnt cover me for was commuting!! :Clown:
