Apologies this is a Suzuki but you guys know your stuff and an engine is an engine! So, engine not sounding right, really rough. It's a GSXR600 IL4 carbs. Took tank off and found a puddle of oily liquid IN the airbox and around the outside outside where the carbs join. Any ideas??
Coming from the crankcase breather which will be connected to the airbox for emissions control purposes. Some condensed oil vapour is normal. How much is a "puddle"?
Also getting some liquid from exhaust but assumed that was due to condensation from constant short start stop from oil change and coolant flushing.
An ostrich egg or a wrens egg? Hmmmm.... Seriously though, if you've been caning it you'll get residual oil in the airbox. I cracked a piston right through on my 1098 and although the airbox was oily it wasn't soaked as you'd expect. It sounds ominous but you wont know for sure til you've whipped the head off. Good luck.
Yep, as many symptoms as possible always best – if you haven't been caning it, and it was running fine the last time out plus sitting a long time I would agree very good chance it's only sticking rings.you could try soaking all four bores overnight with Redex or Diesel. Removing spark plugs and examining could give you a really strong clue if you have an 'odd one out'.
Just remove plugs and pour in Redex? How much in each and do I need to remove or just put plugs in and start engine?
You know the transparent bottles they sell at Halfords? I think they are around 200 ml. A prox half a bottle ought to do four bores so 25 to 30 mL per bore - ish. You don't run the engine at all, you leave it to soak overnight that's the idea. You could put the engine in gear and walk it forwards a couple of feet with no plugs in just to make sure it's coated all the bore. Then you can put plugs back in in preparation for start up in the morning it obviously will smoke! Did all plugs look the same or was there an odd one out?
A (very) short prod on starter will do - just don't overdo the turning over bit or you will defeat the object.
