I quoted the above post from Sr Ippolito because it touched upon something I often ponder. Ippolito states that "Each one of them [MotoGP racers] has thousands of fans who follow their exploits on the track and listen to what they say off the track". People, fans, do hang upon the every word of the heroes, don't they? They want to know what the favourite pop star's favourite colour is, what their favourite writer lists as the books that influenced him most, what their favourite sportsman's favourite music is, etc. I learned a long time ago that I have almost no interest in what my "heroes" were interested in. The books they like I think are rubbish, the music they like I also consider to be rubbish. Basically, my favourite musicians have poor taste in music, my favourite authors can't be trusted to recommend a decent book. Actors reckon that the most dire films are wonderful. What's your experience of your heroes and the things they like?
