Health And Safety At Work

  1. Should you refuse to do the job without a briefing?
I didn't know may not wash if you had to take it further
    Just a thought

  2. got roped into doing a job at BP offices in Redding a few years back (think it was BP) but anyhu they had a h and s policy across the board as in the same rules applied in all there sites, oil rig or office block.. although the office workers didnt have to wear ppe as such. but any trades did.
i was doing a small bit of tapping and jointing in an office and was expected to wear hi viz, hard hat, gloves, long sleeves, goggles and put up safety barriers in a n empty space (as in no cnt working there other than me) fucken joke..
the only health and safety issue was wearing all that shit in an over heated environment and nearly passed out from heat exhaustion... but they wouldn't turn the heat down... fucken joke.
same place offers workers incentives for grassing up work mates for things that are against the rules.. walking whilst using a mobile phone, carrying a hot drink down stairs, holding a hot drink without a lid on it unless seated, not following the footpaths outside the building.... done one day there then jacked.
best bit was they were happy enough to scissor lift sheets of ply 30 foot up through an opening in the roof to be unloaded by my mate with no safety barriers or a harness because it suited them as the facility's manager hadn't allowed for a crane

  3. I think almost anybody who has had to do work for the big oil companies will be in total agreement with you Chizel, I certainly am.

Its fine arguing for all the Elf & Safety, until you actually have to try and get a job completed when its just gone utterly berserk and makes your life utterly miserable, for no good reason.

  4. So you had no training.

  5. No induction, no safety briefing and I didn't sign anything.

  6. It didn't happen then.

Any places that I visit which have H&S restrictions in respect of access, PPE, induction, etc - I have to sign that IU have understood and will comply with the regulations. I don't sign - I don't get access.

If you didn't sign off on anything, they cannot prove that you ignored their regulations. They haven't a leg to stand on unless they can prove that you trespassed - in which case they are in as much trouble as you are, for not securing the site.

I'd be giving them two fingers, either one at a time or both together, depending on my current whim.
