1200 My First Red Bike

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Stonesie, Nov 14, 2015.

  1. On Monday I will be picking up my first Ducati, a 2013 Multistrada S Touring from SMC Sheffield.

It's been an interesting few days reading up on these bikes and seeing what others have made of them, on my 2 hour ride I loved everything about it apart from the gearbox but a tweak of the gear shift linkage helped massively so with a bit of fine tuning I think I can fettle that. The noise is good but could be louder, and after testing the Tiger's, cruise control would be nice as blanket 50 zones with average speed cameras are springing up everywhere, it just lets you pay more attention to the gonads changing lanes at random with no warning... Does anyone else laugh out loud at cars slowing for the cameras then speeding off to the next one?

Already got some bits on order via Ebay.
    Panigale LED rear indicators
Givi V47 top box kit (£220 including shipping from Italy) as the panniers are new to me, filtering was avoided, mostly.
and a 55mm socket and adapter, reading some story's on here it looks like the Punisher will be earning it's keep with that job (Mac Tools twin hammer impact gun, 650Lb:Ft) and I have a suitable torque wrench to put it back on, but my local bike garage has an ex Ducati tech so they can handle anything that I can't.

The first job will be a coat of ACF-50 using the cheapest spray gun I could find, perfect for the job.

I can't wait to go for a ride on it.

  4. Why red? :) Yellow is soooo much faster :D

  5. Does yours have a back brake?

  6. Stonesie, excuse me for being dull, but are you saying the 2013 Multi your getting has cruise control, or the Tiger's got it ?

  7. Loktite... You are going to need Loktite.

  8. Broke, the Triumph Tiger 800 and 1200 have CC as does the 2015 Multi but not my 2013... Although there is the tuneboy CC add-on.

And I only have one pic so far, just after returning it from the test ride..

Locktite, I have a bottle of blue locktite... Most bolts I take out either go back in with that or ACF grease on the thread. The rear brake also works okay, not as good as the STR but okay for use at slow speed/waiting at lights etc.

Actually, thinking about it, when I adjusted the gear shift the locknut was loose... *Orders jumbo size bottle of locktite*

  9. For Cruise Control, I've used these 31hk1Rd4UrL._QL70_.jpg for years. They're cheap and do a very decent job!

  10. Out of curiosity Stonesie how much are they charging you for the bike ? Looks a nice one.
p.s. Check the tool kit has the chain adjustment guide in it :expressionless:
p.p.s. Don't listen to nasty rumours spread on here, the RED ones are definitely faster :expressionless:

  11. Nice one. Keep us updated with the mods you are going to be doing.

  12. It was on eBay for £10995 but I got a little bit off that and a good trade in on the street triple, a bit over book value if I left some nice bits attached like the Remus exhaust and CNC triumph levers. I will miss that little triple, its like a 105 bhp bmx. But the multistrada is very nearly as nimble, much more comfortable, and faster :) brand new pr4 rear tyre too.

My cost to change is 6k which is reasonable, then I rang the insurance company:eek: 5 years ncb apparently means I'm due a crash... Whatever, this bikes worth it.

  13. I don't want to rock the boat, but Smc are doing the new Dvt model for £11995 with panniers thrown in.

  14. YEah, not the S with Skyhook though, surely? That adds thousands.

  15. My mate rang SMC yesterday he spoke to the sales chap whom deals with Ducati and asked several questions, asked about the £11995 Dvt, the sales bod said it does not come with panniers FOC, smc said they would call him back, NO call back ! business must be healthy if they can afford not to call you back to take a deposit .

  16. Yes £11995 for the base model with panniers thrown in
Do you need the S with skyhook ??
I test rode the base model & the S ( with my pillion ) and just couldn't justify the extra for the S model, but that's going slightly off thread topic

  17. I wanted the fancy fancy, LED headlights and Skyhook. And the S model starts at £15725+ accessory's, so I went for the used one.

  18. Very nice it looks too !!
I'm sure you will love it, I really like mine, so does my better half, which makes it even better !!!

  19. I don't have Skyhook but the predecessor elecronically adjustable Ohlins and I think it's well worth having. I'm sure Skyhook is the same. The ability to quickly switch to Enduro mode for truly shitty roads or wrong turns down pothole-strewn dirt roads in foreign countries is what makes the bike for me.

  20. I got to try Enduro mode on Sheffield Parkway, even tried standing on the pegs... Even the bit's they've re-surfaced are terrible but the bike ironed most of it out, the Triumph is no fun on there at all.
