Should Bike Sellers Name A Price ?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by wroughtironron, Nov 15, 2015.

  1. We get a few sellers who seem to think we are a bike auction site, (or that some deluded member will offer them a price well above what their actual expectation is).

These threads tend to generate ranges of responses, some of which range from sarcastic to ridiculous. Should we insist on sellers stating a price?

The LC Forums I frequent, don't permit such Ads - here is what the LC Crazy Forum rules state:

    SELLERS.

we ask that you give an honest description of goods.

If items/ Bikes are crap but cheap say so thats why its cheap in the first place. Please dont put misleading decriptions of items.

It go's without saying or should do (No ringed / cloned or stolen bikes) again to your known knowledge or belief.

Please state clear terms and postage or any terms you insist within your thread.

Please STATE A PRICE in all things for sale,NO MAKE AN OFFER, your thread WILL BE DELETED without notice-you will however receive a pm from one of the admin team explaining why.

  2. Adverts should always include a price. Dont know why it isnt enforced on here like most sites.

  4. And if someone is unsure what smething is worth they can start to topic to ask people opinions etc....

people that dont state a price i think just hope that they catch someone out and get more than its truly worth .

  5. Prices are probably the most useful bit of info of any ad....even if detail is lacking, the buyer knows if they are 'in or out' of a deal with the question answered of 'can I afford this?'
Also a seller will just get so many questions and silly offers that it would benefit them greatly to list a price. I think wroughtironron may have starter this thread over a certain TB 1098R?

  6. There's not a lot wrong with those rules to be fair, the no offers part is a bit strong but a guide price is always useful, as are nice, detailed pictures of the items being offered.

  9. Does that mean I have to move closer to the seller, before I can offer a lower price?

  11. I have been waiting for a good classifieds plugin that we can use for this exact reason. Theres a few I am watching being developed at the moment and as soon as something is ready we will have a full 'proper' classifieds section that will mean ads will have to have criteria that are met before an advert can be posted.

  12. Evening,I've been a car/bike dealer and motor trader for 41 years and I've seen a lot of changes in the trade especially since the Internet/WWW or whatever you want to call it?It bought massive changes to the motor trade and those that didn't embrace it soon fell by the wayside, went skint or worse still went to Spain! All of a sudden you didn't troop down the corner shop @ 6.30am on a rainy Thursday morning and try to nick a bargain! You sat on your fat arse with a mug of typed in ford Sierra within 50 miles and up popped thousands.Simple - problem was if you didn't pitch your car at the right money to get on first couple of webpages you didn't get a phonecall. Now,everyone is a wannabe car dealer cos it's easy?I had 5 big car pitches at my height and all of a sudden people started walking in saying bid me on my car! My reply was always - "if I want to bid on a car I go down to BCA and stick my arm in the air like all the other idiots" - how much is your car Sir? Of course anything for sale has to have a sticker price or it's just another auction site???

  13. All adverts should have a price - and not just on this forum. The only reasons why the seller wouldn't put a price are that they are too lazy to bother finding out what the item they are selling is actually worth, or they are hoping someone will make a stupid offer above the item's value.
If either of those things apply to your advert then go and put it on "a certain internet auction site", not in a forum "for sale" section...

  14. Sellers should indicate their desired price.

  15. I wouldn't force someone to name their asking price actually. However, i also wouldn't be interested in an Ad that didn't have a price and in this way the market decides "not your bike mate".
In the same way, i wouldn't proceed any further with a job advert if it doesn't mention a salary. Perhaps their loss, perhaps mine.
