yep still going on in some parts of the world India woman’s arm ‘cut off by employer’ in Saudi Arabia - BBC News i know mate, not going to happen is it
I believe that the current practice of trying to ban certain words from use, whilst not doing anything about real, physical oppression carried out in our name, is almost laughable. For example - I consider calling a group of people "ragheads" to be trivial next to invading their country, performing rendition on their citizens and then incarcerating them without trial.* I think we need to concentrate upon eliminating real human rights violations - torture, beheadings and such, from both sides of the conflict, instead of telling ourselves that we are civilised because we "don't call other people funny names". *Please note, I refer only to inhabitants of countries which have been invaded.. I don't believe we have the right - or let's face it, the ability - to interfere with internal mayhem of another country. Compare this to when someone is caught in the UK, red-handed, trying to blow shit up or kill innocent people. I will not lose one iota of sleep over the issue of their human rights. Just to be clear.
Bizarrely, discussion has drifted away from the real harms inflicted on real ordinary people by murdering islamic bombers and shooters in Paris, and has moved into hypothetical offence which might be taken by islamic people if the word "raghead" is used of those who wrap cloths around their heads. Perspective, guys.
no willy waving on my part mate, just think the old saying "walk a thousand miles in another mans shoes" is sadly overlooked sometimes
And Kaffar. A highly derogatory Arabic term signifying a contemptible, Godless and disgusting person. Or non-Muslim as they're otherwise known... Raghead is only racist when applied to Sikhs because their headgear is more like an exquisitely folded tablecloth and they don't go around blowing up non-Sikhs.
if youre thinking of kaffir, its a south african term used to describe black people think jos ackland in lethal weapon (apologies if not)
just checked there's kafir and kaffir (the former being arabic and the latter as i described) what an intolerant bunch we really are
Frankly I'll call people whatever I like if they are intending harm to innnocent people........... .....after all, if the Germans were invading the UK, who would complain about them being called Krauts.........?
There a many spellings for Kaffar. It doesn't which is used. What does matter is that the word is not jocular slang but a specific term of abuse for non-Muslims which is written into the Koran.
The latest from Corbyn.....................where on earth did they find him? Jeremy Corbyn 'not happy' with shoot-to-kill policy - BBC News
Terms like "penis" do tend to be the vocab of a certain type of narrow minded person/ignorant person. Potato, po-ta-to...
"I'm not happy with a shoot to kill policy - it can be quite dangerous..." He's a sharp one, our Jeremy.
it's not what said. more often than not it's who said it. BBC criticised for not challenging Kelvin MacKenzie after ex Sun editor calls Scotland 'jockistan' | People | News | The Independent
The sad thing about a lot of supposedly derogatory words is that semantically, they are such fun - they really conjure up an image: raghead chutney ferret turd burgler shirt lifter It's a real shame that they are so homophobic and racist. Because they are, pretty much, let's face it. On the other hand, Paki as a short name for Pakistani or even Chink for Chinese - I don't know what people get so upset about. Eye-tie for Italian, is that rude? Frogs, Krauts? The industrial cheddar cheese you find in Australia is sold under the Coon brand name. Not surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be much exported.... There again, whilst "nigger" isn't a great word, "coon" is quite fun in its consonance. Oh well.
I wonder whether it will come out, in a day or two's time, that the "quote" from Corbyn was inaccurate, out-of-context or just-plain-made-up. You know - like practically every media story about Corbyn thus far. It makes me so fucking mad. Every time the media fails to be accurate about Corbyn, it just feeds the illusion that Corbyn is being maligned (which is true) and is actually the best thing since sliced bread (which isn't). Those useless fuckers at The S*n will almost single-handedly usher Corbyn into No 10 with their embarrassingly amateur, inexpert and incompetent attempts to discredit him. FFS.
