Nuts!

  1. Please explain.

3 weeks ago I took the front sprocket off (GSXR, please forgive me, but the point is general). Had never been off in 18k miles and 16 years to my knowledge but was MUCH easier than expected. Cleaned the area, put sprocket back on and set to correct torque of 120nm/88Ft-Lbs. Rode to MOT center and back, maximum 5 miles.

Can I get the ^£"&$&"er off again! Can I bugger. I have a chock of wood holding the back wheel from turning and my 300mm breaker is bending under the force. I have even hooked a garden spade up to it to get extra leverage but it ain't budging.

It's obviously not rusted on or full of crap as i cleaned it before putting it back on.

Question is: How the hell has it gotten so tight in 3 weeks!?!!?

I have now ordered a heat gun and a 750mm breaker.

  10. Electric impact wrench???+

  11. Did you grease the thread and then torque it up to the usual value?

I think I've read that torquing up a greased thread means you actually exceed the designed torque value. It makes sense to me, at least and I always take grease into account when torquing up nits.

  12. What model is it?

  14. Does either of you know specifically what the other is talking about?

  19. would i be right in saying if it's not tight enough at the beginning or the splines are worn it will self tighten?

  20. I've seen a mate's GSXR750 unwind its front sprocket nut after he under-tightening it.

Put a dampener on our whole Sunday Morning Run that one time.
