just had a quote for brembo pads for my 1098s and had to sit down, anyhow it seems sbs pads are good at under a third the price of brembo....so has anyone used them and what do you think? im not after super duper huge power braking as iv already wrecked one 1098 in a panic brake situation.
I've used SBS dual carbon and SBS sintered..... The dual carbon are mental when hot, but I found them nigh on impossible to keep up to temperature on the road, on the track they would be great. The sintered are brilliant for day to day road use, they warm up quickly, are not fussy about the rain and don't fade.
I use sbs as a preference. Nog got.me into them for the.track and I use them for the road too. Excellent
I used brembo in my rc8, same calipers as yours I believe, until recently. I made the switch to sbs mainly due to cost as you have mentioned. Things I've noticed, bearing in mind I have only raced on the sbs sintered and not used them on the road. I use the same pads wet and dry. 1. The sbs pads were the same thickness new as the brembos were after at least 5 full club race meetings. 2. There is a lot more brake dust with the sbs pads 3. The sbs pads seem to have worn a lot quicker but I can't be sure 4. There is no real difference in feel and braking power, no more or less fade or grabiness. In summary I think I'm going to try another set of sbs to confirm but I reckon I'll go through two sets of them to one set of brembos so it'll cost the same in the long run. Either way it's not cheap. Perhaps the answer is to brake less maybe my lap times will come down too!
Just been on e bay and there different sintered pads for race and road. Perhaps the wear could be different. Steve
That's good news, I've got a set of SBS sintered waiting to fit on my 998, always used oem pads up 'til now and to be honest found them more than adequate for road use and got good mileage as well, around 20k. but times are hard and the SBS were considerably less pricey.
Use these on my bikes - much better than OEM Brembo and at this price they're a steal - and yes, I have bought from these guys! Carbone Lorraine Front Brake Pad Set Ducati 1098 - £53.99 inc next day delivery. Carbone Lorraine Front Brake Pad Set Ducati 1098 - SPR Racing
Howdo! Used SBS dual carbon on the road - poor at low speeds (No feed back and no initial bite) higher speeds (Discs up to temp) good stopping power. All in the dry. SBS RS pads - Good pads in all respects in the dry, however considerably less stopping power in the wet. Cheers Pablo
many thanks for replys,iv sbs pads on order. i also wanted to service my calipers and have been told that ducati nor brembo will sell replacement seals and i can either buy new calipers (£700) or return them to brembo for servicing....grr.
new pads fitted, calipers serviced, new fluid, disks cleaned, weather crap. now to try to sort out my 3k rpm splutter.
