He is a self publicist who went where others had already been, hardly the last great British explorer. He was literally dragged up the North Face of the Eiger by Kenton Cool, it was embarasing to watch the TV program of the ascent. Bill Tilman was the last of the great British explorers.

Whilst I partly agree on Bill Tilman, Ran was the first person to both poles by surface means, and the first person to cross Antarctica on foot. He's also the oldest Britain to summit Everest, even if he was 'dragged up'. I think he can hold his own.

Apart from the side topic of whether Ranulph is the greatest explorer of all time or not, i think he shouldve explored a little harder before parting with his hard earned for that rug...the wig seller saw him coming. If i was unlucky enough to have a horseshoe or a wide parting, id just say that ive done too many U-Turns under the bed sheets. Shall we have a poll on the worse rugs in showbiz??
