Tyson Fury. Sports Personality Of The Year?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by finm, Dec 8, 2015.

  1. obviously he should be entitled to his views but should the bbc be promoting them? where do you draw the line? heard a radio phone in this morning thankfully not to many seems to share them.

  2. He is more than entitled to his opinion. He speaks his mind, which in this day and age many are scared to do.

But he is a bell end.

  3. He sounds like a fine, upstanding muslim to me.

  4. It would be a disgrace if he was to win SPOTY, but then it is the Great British Public who decide the winner, so anything could happen.
Do I sense a backlash to the politically correct bollox that has been the norm for so long now ?

The BBC should do the right thing and drop him from the competition.

  10. you never know. i doubt he truly believes what he says. gets you noticed i suppose.

  11. I disagree with his stated views on abortion, homosexuality and women`s place in the world and it seems many others feel the same but that is no reason to remove him from the list. I`m sure lots of other people share his views, especially those from strong religious backgrounds. Surely the best thing to do is to make it obvious how stupid his views are which has the added bonus of showing what bollox religion is too.
Are all the other competitors over the years fine and upstanding beacons of morality and political correctness ? I seem to recall Ryan Giggs being on the list not long after it was made public he had been shagging his brothers wife for many years. That didn't seem to create the same storm so I guess as far as the press and the public are concerned it is ok to stab your brother in the back but not ok to be anti abortion.
Why on earth does anyone expect sportspeople to be role models ? They are good at running, driving, throwing things etc. Pick a winner of this stupidly named and stupid award based on sporting achievement.
Role models should be those that tell us how to live and behave , people like politicians or religious leaders for example and not boxers, footballers or singers. Trust me, you wont go far wrong if you pick a politician or Catholic priest as a role model !

  15. Leaving sarcasm to the side for a moment, who really should be role models?

I suggest Nobel prize winners like Peter Higgs, scientists like Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking, or philosophers like Anthony Grayling. Any other (serious) suggestions?

  16. People noted for going quietly about their way doing charitable works but who do not seek the spotlight for themselves.

The hard part is of course finding these self-effacing individuals!

    Yes, I am serious.

  19. 99% of sports people are role models because they inspire others to achieve what they’ve achieved and more. Young kids want to be them and emulate them.

Its only scumbags like that fat pudding Fury and thugs like Joey Barton who spoil it for the majority.

There are plenty of “overpaid” professional footballers who go under the radar so to speak with their charity work too.

    Read this if you have 5 minutes, it might even change your opinion of footballers;
