more of a problem if they don't have a low pressure delivery pump good quality filters prevent most issues. ever got a diesel problem change the filter especially if they have weird fault codes listed.
Update for anyone interested. Car just gave up last week. No revs, sluggish. So lucky it actually happened coming into the drive. New egr fitted. All good, running normally. I will order a new filter and get it fitted asap. So if you got an Alfa and its running like a bag of dirt, try the egr. Thanks to finm.
EGR = Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve for those that don't know the acronym. My little Modus started loosing power and on acceleration blowing out black smoke after about an hour of driving, did it several times - local garage cleaned the EGR and it's been fine for the next 30,000 miles.
