New Chain And Sprocket

  1. Morning

New JT chain about to go on. Should the grease it comes caked in be whipped off? Will it fling?

    Cheers

  2. Personally, I'd wipe it off. It's not as good as a proper lube, and yes it does fling!

Easier to get it right with the chain off as well!

  3. haha, it's completely up to you at the end of the day.

But the packing grease isn't very good (I work with chains for a living).

On my 899, by the time I got back from the dealer it was all over the underside of the rear end.

  4. Regarding chains and sprockets ... i use DID Gold X Ring both on
my Africa Twin and 300 Gasgas along with Gold Supersprox sprockets.... can never skimp on chains esp gold ones :tonguewink:

  5. Everyone has an opinion on this dude, and I'm not knocking your experience at all.

Chain wise, DID's are very good, can't knock them at all.

  6. Not after a chain review. Been done to death, everyone will say DID and I have already bought a JT as i'm poor.

  7. Absolutely nothing wrong with JT.

    Good stuff.

  8. I can't see what the problem is..........

..........if the grease flings off the new chain or an old one; just wipe the damn stuff off.........

  10. Its pretty sticky mucky stuff, if it's meant to only be left on when storing on the shelf but wiped off before flinging itself all over my rear tyre, i'd like to know. Especially as first ride will be a short shake down followed by a long ride to Brands Hatch for a track day. I'd rather not turn up with a dry chain and oiled tyre.

  11. Well the answer to that is...........just wipe off what you think is excess grease on the chain............

............because if the grease is that bad and you don't wipe it all off and you regrease with better 'none-fling off'; it will still fling off.

But if you wipe it all off......(which really means 'wash')......you will have to re-grease anyway.

However, you could always look at your tyre before you actually go round the track (as is good practice) which will give you a chance to wipe any off.........just take a can of brake cleaner with you......it even makes tyres a bit sticky (actually carb cleaner does it better).

  12. I was at a car dealers and they had a bike as trade in, it was sitting in show roomed fully polished inc the complete tyres.
Another vote for did and leave the packing grease.

  13. I use wurth dry chain lube, seems to do the job but I'm putting a fair bit on at the mo. I've also been advised to put it on to a warm chain, whether or not this makes any difference I'm not sure

  14. Yes it's good practice to lube the chain after a run rather than before.

  15. I use the same.......

  16. FOC at track events I am at :upyeah:

  17. You doing the novice day at Brands on 7th March?

  18. no, weather is always shit at brands before April. All the guys who tried the range of 6T9 products at Almeria were well impressed.

  19. Was kidding. Don't really expect you at a novice day. Hope your kidding about the weather.
