Steering damper fitted!!

  1. Right i decided to fit the steering damper kit from the s version to my 848 and all i can say is wooooooooooowwwww!!!!!!!!
The bike so needed some control on the front as it seems so happy to be very wayward over the entire road surface. I have been fiddling with the front rebound and compression adjustments on the forks and found that it either emphisizes the skittish front end or it dulls it so much that turn in on slow corners makes it a bind to ride!
Since fitting the damper the whole front now feels planted and gives me a better insight in what adjustments i make now. Slow speed is much nicer and i have no shake going over bumpy and rutted roads, high speed motorway journeys are even nicer given that i have no screen yet and my body acts as a sail. I cannot beleive that Ducati did not fit this to the 848 units so can only assume that costs stopped it. A really worthwhile improvement and better than bolting some carbon bits on.
Also have fitted some Rizoma footpegs as the original versions with the slippery ball at the outer were not comfortable or confident with my feet.

  2. How much did it cost? Up here in Scotland roads are pretty bad in places and even though preload is backed right off front and back it still jumps around on the front particularly where the shell grip has broken up in the bends so a damper might be the answer.

  3. Total cost was just shy of £300 all in, The damper alone was £170 this is all genuine Ducati parts and the conversion was easy to fit taking no more than one hour to fit with minimal tooling.

  4. Did you use the steering damper from the 1098 or has there been an 848 version released ?

  5. There has been an 848 (pre Evo) version available for a few years now, Made by FG for Ducati though it is expensive

    Not cheap on evilbay either

  8. no pics....?????

just not a post without the pics mate c'mon

  9. Ok i will give it a go then.

  10. Do you need to drill holes etc or does this fit straight on an 848SF?

great parts list by the way

  11. Bolts straight on, no drilling holes no modifications at all. You can even remove it when you sell the bike.
Sorry picture not done yet as got work in office to do.

  12. Has anyone tried to fit a standard 848 damper to a 749s? The mounting points broadly line up (well not at all but two of them do, enough to mount the thing without modification) but the clamp needs to be offset pretty far off the left to make it centre ok... Thoughts?

  13. I would start a separate thread with appropriate title if I were you cos this is in streetfighter section. A 999 damper's got to be the way to go on a 749?
