Front Left Fork Not Vertical

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cream_Revenge, Jan 6, 2016.

  1. Hi guys

GSXR600 1999 SRAD (sorry) with conventional forks.

Was stripping my front brakes earlier and noticed the front end not looking quite straight. The front wheel is slightly off vertical. I think I have tracked it down to the left fork (sat on bike) being not quite vertical but the right one is vertical. Surely if the wheel is in right they should pull straight? When I take the wheel out they both flare outwards slightly.

Bouncing forks, took wheel in and out and still same. Spins true, freely and easily and no rubbing on the disc.

I have recently had the forks out for a fluid swap and measured 110mm air gap exactly.

Could it be a mistake putting forks back together?

    Or how I'm fitting them?

Or could it always be out and I never noticed? Bent fork?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. are you confident they are equal in the yoke? that will throw the wheel of vertical

  3. Height wise through the top? I think so, if not it's very close to my old eyes.

  4. Were you wearing those glasses at the time so we can rule that out ;)

  5. Either the forks are bent, one of yokes is bent, or more likely the forks are twisted in the yokes. i.e. The yokes aren't parallel.
To fix this loosen the clamp bolts on the bottom yoke and on the wheel spindle but keeping those on the top yoke tight. Bouncing hard up and down on the suspension a few times should line them up. If not, try holding the wheel between your knees while twisting the bars. If that doesn't bring them into line something is bent.
Remember to tighten all the pinch bolts when you are done.

  6. Yes, I even took pics on my phone with metal ruler against them so I could zoom in. Cheeky.

  7. I did mean the ones on your sunny face but I like being cheeky too :Kiss:

  8. Bent axle?

  9. Afternoon. Think it's sorted. Was a combination of not lining everything up quite right putting it all back together, working in a tight space at night in poor lighting, paranoia. Loosened it all up, bounced up and down lots and appears fine. I think the front fairing is not quite straight (fraction) which gives the illusion the wheel isn't straight when it is. Will loosen that off and realign and should be all good.

    Thanks as always guys.
