1098 1098/harris Rear Stand

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by timberwolf, Jan 14, 2016.

  1. When I sold my gsxr I also sold my harris st/st rear stand and purchased a single sided one for the 1098. I remember regretting this as I realised the harris stand could fit the 1098 when I saw a few pics online. Did I dream it or will the harris stand fit? Do i need a tube or something through the axle?
I have been offered a harris one and my single sided one is useless, bike leans dramatically.
Anyone actually use a standard harris on their single swing arm ducati?

    Thanks
    Phil

  2. I've used the standard twin sided stands on single sided swing arms loads of times as you say just put a piece of round bar through the hollow axle. Only down side is that you can't remove the rear wheel if you take it off.

  3. That does not sound right. Does the stub axle fit very snugly into the sprocket side of the bike axle?

  4. Which is one of the reasons for having a paddock stand, I would have thought. A bit like having a kettle with no spout or lid, it boils water brilliantly, but you can't pour it out. :)

  5. @Robarano Such a device is commonly known as a "Chocolate Teapot"

  6. you sure the pin that goes in the wheel hub is not for the smaller 848 ... my single sided is fine on my 1198

  8. There was a thread in the Multistrada section recently about the cheaper single sided swing arm stands letting the bike lean and in some cases fall off...

Timberwolf, you can simply put a piece of round bar through the spindle (1/2" should do it and do NOT use the threaded stuff) and use the normal double sided paddock stand, or the best option, ABBA stand.

  9. My single sided stand is a sealey one which I purchased with a pin specific to an 08 1098. Its a tight enough fit but the bloody thing still leans. It may just be down to the stand being crap.
I am not looking for one to enable the rear wheel to come off, I will leave that to the tyre fitter. I just want one to ease chain lubricating and wheel cleaning etc.
The thing came into my head as I have just been offered the harris stand from an ex biker friend for ten squids.
Thanks for the input dudes (excluding Robarano )

  10. You're welcome.

  11. So either the paddock stand tube where the spindle fits into, is not welded on at 90 degrees to the floor, or the stand isn't on level ground?

  12. Or if you just want to use it for getting the wheels off the ground, for tyre warmers perhaps.

  13. Which is why I said it was one of the reasons, not the only reason to have a paddock stand.

  14. Or it's a cheap flimsy piece of shit :)

  15. Its a flimsy piece of shit as Toby says. I don't use a paddock stand for anything but cleaning and chain lubing so all the flyboy comments are not needed :grinning:. A harris stand for a tenner with a tube through will do me fine (i have a tube already).
Those of you that chose to advise and assist me, thank you very much. Those that decided to take the piss, you are in my book.
