  1. So let's just suppose that we weren't in the EU for the last 3 years; what could the UK government have done to protect the steel industry?

    1) Taken steps to limit cheap subsidised Chinese steel coming into the UK.
    2) Offered reduced electricity rates and other short term rescue plans.
    3) In the event of closures still occurring; new business development zones could be created in the regions where large job losses occur. These could then have grants available and rate free periods for new businesses thereby creating new employment. The costs would be offset in a relatively short period by the reduced unemployment and benefits being paid.

When I am elected as the benign dictator all will be well.....

  2. Having had this conversation with a fairly wide range of friends and colleagues, all from different industries and politically loyal backgrounds, the vast majority didn't even hesitate to say they wanted to leave.

It just seems to be an overriding feeling of it not being worth remaining and a genuine belief in the UK being better going it alone.

Whether thats right or wrong i guess we'll find out, but I'm not remotely scared, its not like we'll lose anything worth being scared about.

We'll still be Great Britain, we'll still have our currency and best of all we'll live and die by our own decisions, not some decisions made by people who have nothing to do with this country.

  4. The English should have had a vote Finm, that would have fixed it :upyeah:

  5. It does rather depend on what you ask though. What would be really interesting would be to ask simply whether "People in the UK should pay taxes for four years before claiming tax credits and other benefits"... why should "People coming to the UK from the EU" be treated any differently from the rest? As others in the EU will quite rightly be asking Cameron...

  6. with the dirge of articles like that i wouldn't blame ya.

  7. Oh OK then, on balance you can stay in then.

  8. thanks man.

  10. A guy from the organisation that represents polling companies was saying on the radio on Friday that the "Leave",vote was 6% higher than the,"Stay"..
I think I'd rather believe him,(if I was forced to believe someone),than anything printed in the laughably named,"Independent"

  11. Yes, I was told today that it was 6% but didn't bother to check were it come from. Again seems too close for comfort

  12. I got as far as "Edinburgh University".

That along with the MSM were just two ways a powerful section of "the English" got a vote in IndyRef.

  13. you got to admit. its pretty funny. :smileys:

  16. If correct

Alex Salmond used to argue for “full fiscal autonomy”. Now he argues for mere “full fiscal responsibility”.

is an interesting point. Wee Eck always chooses his words very carefully. Alternatively "responsibility" makes more sense than "autonomy" within a United Kingdom.

  17. why do you think these articles have started? or never really stopped.
could it be to stop fears of further constitutional problems?
    don't be fooled.

  18. Nobody really knows what the future holds and agendas are being followed to try to achieve a desired outcome, this is what politics is about.
