Hi, I am looking to send my forks and shock to JHP for service and re-spring. I want to insure the parcel but cannot find anywhere that does cover up to £5K at a reasonable rate. DHL wanted to charge about £250 to cover that amount! Any recommendations?
Could ask if JHP will arrange collection and then add it to your bill. That way it's their issue. Alternatively, ask them who they would use for the return
www.postagesupermarket.com will be about £10 to post with a max value of £2500 costing an additional £55.20 (Using Parcelforce) 2 packages will give you £110.40 insurance and about £16 to post both parcels.
That was my original plan. Spoke to them today and they said they would do that...then they rang back about 10 minutes later to say that they couldn't cover the insurance if they didn't pack the parcel...doh.
Nice idea! I will take one fork out and send it seperately! Good thinking, I take it all back!! Still quite pricey though...cheaper to drive there and back myself...
Are you set on JHP? I would have thought that Full Travel Racing Suspension in Braintree was closer. Did a great job on my 748RS Ohlins rear shock. Or what about JHS Racing who are in Keynsham near Bristol ? Did a brilliant job on the rebuild of my 748R Ohlins forks? Andy
They appear to be the only people experienced with FG353 Desmo forks. I tried KTech and Kais but they don't know anything about these forks. Either way, I'd still need to get them sent somewhere for the service so I would face the same issue. Probably going to have to take a trip to the town of Lady Godiva's ride...
JHP do a bike collection service, maybe they could pick up your forks if they are picking up a bike in/near your area ? worth a try.
Race Lab Suspension - Home page What about Racelab in Wimborne, Dorset? Paul rebuilt the forks on my SF and fitted and set up the Ohlins shock. He's an Ohlins, K-teck and Nitron dealer. He's done set-ups on three bikes for me. He's a race team trained suspension specialists and suspension is all he does. His set-ups aren't the cheapest but he really knows his onions. The upgrade he carried out on my SF was very good value. Ohlins TTX, rear, K-tech piston kit up front supplied and fitted and set up - £1600 ride in ride out. (not on the same day obviously..) I wouldn't use anyone else now.
I send and receive stuff of high value all the time (business) and have found it simply isn't viable to insure everything for it's full value. Find a good courier and make sure everything is packed really, really well (unlike many on-line traders) so that it is virtually impossible to damage... That or deliver/collect in person.
I tried that too...they tend to "group" their pick ups by area...they aren't planning any in Sussex in the near-ish future.
Even if you did get a carrier that provides insurance. You wait till you want to make a claim, the small print is a work of genius for the carrier. Just take them there in person and prearrange to have it done that day. Or take them, leave them and let JHP worry about it on the return leg. Or put a request on the forum for someone to take them there for you, i belong on a car forum and we have had stuff transported all over the uk, europe and world by good honest people. I get all my stuff inhouse at Ohlins development center in germany and watch the process while it's all done. Very informative if you ever get the chance.
My mate breaks bikes and sends a lot of (pricey)stuff by interparcel. He doesnt insure, its all barcoded and tracked by every handler so is 99.99% safe and thats all over europe.
