Changing visors?

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by El Toro, Oct 10, 2012.

  1. According to numerous videos on YouTube changing a visor to an Arai helmet (including the RX7 GP that I've just bought) is supposed to be a piece of piss. If that's the case how come it's just taken me over an hour to do this?

Or am I just a cack handed spaz? :frown:

  2. Spaz!

it should take about a minute , feels like bits will snap but they dont! Practice makes perfect.

  3. Hi El T,
It's not 'cos your cack handed! I've been a techie, and spannerin' for well over 20 years, and I HATE changing Arai visors!!!!
It's definitely the weakest link of Arai's - and it really annoys me. I love the fit and feel of Arais, but hate removing/fitting the visors.
Have you seen how they change them at the TT? The support guys change them in a few seconds

  4. It's a doddle once you stop worrying about it.
    Just give it some!

  5. I used to do mine for fun, but the last time I did it I couldn't get the bloody thing in without the side cover popping off!! Took sodding ages to get it to sit properly, I just leave it well alone now.

That was well over four years ago now and it's still on the original visor, great helmets generally.

  6. I'll not be changing it again anytime soon. The dark visor's in for good now

  7. I can do mine ok
If I can you should be able too
    :-/

  8. Me too, it's the one thing that will stop me replacing my Arai with another one.

  9. Hate em, even watched the videos and ended up snapping a side pod! I very rarely change the visor now, I just have 2 lids one with a clear visor and one with a dark!

  10. I snapped a lug on one of the side pods on my previous helmet. Bloody things.

  11. Love the fit of Arais but hate the fiddly visors. It really feels like something will snap if you use enough force to actually undo anything. Have had to replace the white plastic pivoty bits at least twice because bits snapped off and I still don't now what happened!

  12. Just done 2 pinlocks on my HJC track lid visors, peace a pee...Arai one to do yet! Maybe I'll just wait a bit...

  13. Yeah I have - well impressive. - ..................erm, why do they need to change the visor anyway? - Can't they use tear-offs?

  14. You just can't beat 600 quids worth of crap design.....

  15. and that is when the side pods make a break for freedom.

When the helmets are new they are a bit of a pain. Every now and again my arai gives me some jip, so i squeeze the pods on the side, just to make sure that the visor stays tracked inside. Seems to work, but yes Arai should/could learn lots for Shoei and HJC for visor mechanisms

  16. And from customer feedback on forums like this

  17. £700.........................but reduced to £400 even though it has a variable aerofoil on the back

  18. For goodness sake man pop over here and I will show you how easy it is :-D

  19. It's done now. And it's staying done. Thanks for nothing

  20. Lol :p
